Order this from the Colt Custom Shop a year and a half ago and it finally arrived.  Ordered one-piece ivories and "B" (50%) engraving and it was worth the wait.

The ivories (by Paul Persinger) are perfect and the bluing and case colors are outstanding.

The engraving is excellent and looks to me like a lot more than 50% coverge.

Shooter or Safe Queen?

A shooter, absolutely.  45 Colt and so far (I was shooting lousy that day) it's doing fine.  Some day when I'm on my game I'll see just how good it shoots but I suspect the answer will be:  better than I do.

Wow that is very nice,  what caliber did you chose to go with?   Some day I hope I can do that,  order a special Colt SAA from the Colt custom shop.   I think I would want 44-40 as my first pick and 44spl as my second choice, but that would be a hard discussion.  Heck maybe I'd need one or each.    Congrats and a fine piece of art, history and functional fun!

P.S I see you posted caliber while I way typing.

If you have the bucks you can get a.44 Spl fitted with an extra cylinder in .44-40.

Beautiful!

The New Frontier is a handsome pistol and your New Frontier is a piece of art.

Sagebrush, that is a fine sixgun you can be very proud of!  I know you will enjoy the heck out of it.

D-Hansen, your two choices of caliber don't have to be a decision, you can get the gun with both cylinders!

That's what I did and the second box I checked was a CCH:

But my 'B' engraving coverage is far less than the OP's beautiful NF.

She's a beauty.  Colt seems to have really gotten their act together the last few years.  I'd love to have a pair of Frontier Six Shooters (44-40's) in nickel with engraving and ivory grips.

I was thinking of ordering a pair of new Colts before I stumbled across my pair of 1st Gens.  I'm thinking of having Alan Harton do a complete restoration on both of them in a year or so.  Then I could end up with 1st Gens that look like yours!  What's not to like?  ;D

My advice would be to leave your Colts alone.

No matter 'who' does the 'restoration' - Harton, Turnbull or Colt - all you'll have and all you'll always have will be a reblued used revolver.

Leave them with their original finish.

I haven't decided yet, and am not in a hurry to do so.  However, I buy shooters, not collectables.  There is something to be said for having an early Colt restored to it's original condition and beauty.  Rather like resetting the clock and starting over for another 130+ years.

Sure - except that the 'restoration' doesn't enhance the old metallurgy used when making the original piece - it's still tired wrought iron.

It just makes it 'pretty' and it erases the weapon's history.

The point of this thread was Hondo's new custom shop baby, and I'm sorry for diverting it.

It is truly a beautiful revolver and I'm sure will bring him much pleasure!  I wish I had the opportunity to see it in person. ;)

SageBrush Burns and Hondo44,  Thanks for sharing the photos of your Colts.  Both are absolutely beautiful.   The craftsmanship on those revolvers is remarkable and makes me want to get on the waiting list.  I hear its over a year and a half and close to two years.  Some rumors suggest Colt stopped taking orders, but I do not know if this is true or not.   Someday I will get myself a retirement gift in the form of a custom shop Colt revolver with duel cylinders.

The thread was started with Sagebrush's new Colt. I just tacked on. No worries on diversions, that's what keeps these threads interesting!

I hope ya'll don't mine me jumpin on the wagon. This is my Colt. I got it for myself as a "retirement" gift. I called up Sixgun Shorty and had me pick out a good un. Since it was to be a shooter it is in 357. It is beautiful.

I paired it up with a GW2 that Debbie of EMF had kept hidden away for someone that would appreciate it. It is all black/blue. After I did the paperwork and on my way home I decided it was screaming for a set of Colt eagle grips. I turned around and has Bob Shaw (OlLone$um  RIP) fit a real set of Colts on it.

I shoot them together and they are absoutly IDENTICAL, action trigger pull, weight the whole thing. I almost wished the all blue/black was CCH so they matched perfect, but oh well, they are still a good pair.

you guys have some sweet engraving on yer Colts.

Curley,

Beautiful pair!

I don't think they would have matched anyway. The CCH on GW IIs I've seen isn't the same quality colors as the Colt's. But now you can send off the frame to Doug Turnbull along with both hammers and have them CCH to match! $150 for frame and loading gate, a little more for two hammers.

Looks like the GW II has the pre war authentic extra bevel angle on the trigger guard strap, that the 3rd gen Colts no longer have. And the round trigger guard of the 1894 to 1917 Colt pre war models.

thanks Hondo

I have a pair of early GW2s that have the Turnbull CCH Here is one of them and the pix doesn't do the finish full justice. I love them.
