Too valuble, used cloth was the only source of paper and paper was very expensive. ;D

Pea Pods, come on Slim, might they be a little small. ;D ;D ;D

It is so simple, part of a custom leadin' out of it still exists today. ;D

Okay Del

Let's see if this works?  As gross as it sounds, it was the human hand, usually the left.  This is why in some religions even today the left hand is considered "unclean".

You got it Russ T.  that is why you shake hands with the right and in Muslim country's you only eat with the right and also why they cut the right hand off a theif.  Ya can't eat in polite company.

One note thought the coarser diet of the time eliminated (no pun intended) the need for our more absorbant types of TP. ;D

If you think that is a strange tale ask Slim about the inventor of Kellogg Corn flakes. and his yougert fetish. ;D

BTW the plastic dash parts seen on Ford cars in the late 1930 to into the 1940's came about as a failed attempt to make fake meat from soy beans. :o

Slim

Well gee, Slim...I think this is very interesting.  Where else on the net can you find a bunch of folks discussing (of all things!) terlet paper and various other methods of cleaning one's backside?  This is, indeed, a rare discussion!  You won't find a whole lot of these on the net!

The Arapaho Kid

UH....DID SOMEONE HERE CALL FOR TERLET PAPER?

Delmonico

But litl rooster, only the rich could afford sea sponges any distance from the coast. ;D  But they are the ones that because of diet needed them. :P

Slim, who did you think would start this up, you forgot "National Toilet Paper Day" on purpose! ;D

Remember Slim, to not understand history is to repeat the mistakes of the past, on day you could go in and find out there was no paper and none to be had anywhere and the reason would be we didn't celabrate the day. :o

I didn't take on the title "Mongrel Historian" for nuthin'.

AK there is much researched history in "Tall Tales!"  Delmonico's research has lead him down some strange paths in search of things not even related to toilet paper, but as they say, what goes in must come out.  It's all food, just a different stage in life.

BTW the are ark-ee-oli-jests who specialize in studing the diet of folks from the past by studying.................................you guessed it.  Fastenating work if yer interested in historical food, not a job I would care to take on. :P :P :P :P :P :P

So, ...
It's all Slim's fault!
::)

Slim

It ain't yer fault, Slim!  Someone mentioned terlet paper, so we rolled with it!

Delmonico

So Slim, to censor me and toilet paper would be akin to burning books, good books just like what happened in Germany in the 1930's, soon you would not be satified, you would get storm troopers and run amuck, soon you would be elected to a position of power which you would abuse and rise up and grab more power, soon you would be tryin' to take over the world and you would imprison us that speak the truth, soon the rest of the world would rise up and have to try to defeat you, tens and even hundreds of millions would be involved, hundreds of thousands if not millions would die in the conflict and soon you would be huddled, by yourself, alone in a bunker with the whole world screaming for justice, but would we get it, no you would cheat us in the end. ;D

So ya, it's all your fault for forgettin' "National Toilet Paper day.

BTW: I've been lookin' for a good rant, "Thanks I needed that." ;)

Ya don't have time to fix typo's in a good rant once it gets flowin', 'sides that I spent 5 days settin' up a two word puch line in Newbreassky and no one but ST came close to lettin' me do it.   ;D

So now you are off wanderin' round the marsh's and lakes. ;D

Course when they were in the desert they had a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day to guide them.
