Yeah and you have to remember according to the story King Fisher usually had 40 or 50 men around him.  Turned out good for the Rangers that day, there were only nine.

Forty Rangers, outside, free to move about and seek shelter, able to access food and water, not afraid nor unwilling to shoot to kill?  Don't believe I'd have bet against them.  I'd say the good luck was on Fisher's side.  If he'd had that many men fighting back the massacre would have been historic.....and I'd have bet the rangers would have come away lightly damaged.
