Looking to get a good quality screwdriver set for doing work on the Uberti 1873 rifle.
Brownells looks to be a great choice. Can anyone tell me what Number size drivers are needed to disassemble
this rifle.

Actually I doubt one size fits all. I actually purchase the Brownells Magna-Tip Bits (* are bits common to other guns listed) and amounted to 11 bits for these guns. I believe the Uberti 1973 will probably match the Winchester 92 and possibly the Colt set. The sure did fit my Uberti SAA perfect as well as the one ASM I have. They also fit my Rossi 92 and Rossi Rio Grande. They run about $3 a bit max. I've had them for a very long time and never have burred a screw or broken a bit. They work fine with a bit type handle which I had a few from Snap On previously so never bought any of Brownells. Grace tools is also very popular but I prefer the Magna Tips to their screw drivers however I use their brass hammer and punches and love them.

Thanks for the info!  I was looking at the Brownell tips also.  By accident, while looking for something else,I found an inexpensive
rachet and screwdriver set in our kitchen pantry. Inside was a flat blade tip set with a driver handle. Three of the tips fit several of the Uberti screws perfectly and was able to loosen the 2 stock screws and side plate screw successfully!

Hi

Those numbers for the Winchester 92 didn't exist anymore.  Brownells DID have a Winchester / Rossi 92 set and I ordered that.  Is 180-3 and 180--5 changed to 185-3 and 195-5?

What about electrician's insulated screwdrivers? I found a few around the house and they appear to be hollowground. They are definitely not straight sided like cheap screwdrivers.

Is there a degree in hollowground'ness for screwdrivers?

I've tried a couple in my Uberti 1873 and Ruger NMV and they seem to sit well, although I have to buy a few more in different sizes.

I saved a list of screwdriver tips posted by John Boy a few years ago that included this:

Tip sizes for '73 Winchester
180-4
210-3
240-3
240-4
330-3 Added: Magazine Plug
340-4
340-6 butt Plate

At work we use Brownells screwdrivers more-so than drivers with interchangeable tips.  If I recall, the #5 is good for the carrier and lever spring screws (that one is good for SAA's too), #7 for the side plates and lever.  #13 and 16 for upper/lower tangs and buttplate.

Lee Valley offers a set of Grace 'gunsmith' screwdrivers for $40. I have a set and they are EXCELLENT.

Hi

I ordered a Brownells set labeled as Winchester / Rossi 92, hollow storage screwdriver with bits.  I'll see what they're labeled and put that here.  It may be a while, I had them sent to my son's place.

I bought a set of the magnetic tips with a handle and so far they fit all of my CAS guns plus my non CAS guns.  I wish I had bought them earlier as they make things go much soother.

I just picked up a set of Wheeler screwdriver tips & handles from Cabelas this past weekend. Been using them for my "U Build It" 2873 project. Was on sale for $59.95. So far so good.
