Took delivery of my original .45-75 mold, opened her up, had a long moment of stupid surprise, and now I have to laugh.
Someone somewhere along the line filled the original mold with molten brass or bronze, then recut it to cast a .390 round ball!

Mold is properly marked, and you can see the outline of that sweet old Winchester 350-grain flatnose ALL FILLED IN! I've not seen the like before. Oh well, the good news is I have a .40 flintlock being built by Roy Stroh, and this will make a fine bag mold for it, assuming it casts a decent ball. So the hunt continues for a mold for the '76.

Dang Bill , I would contact that seller and send that back. That is not right . And E-bay will  or should assist in getting the seller to take that back. Sad that there are people out there like that. Sorry for Ya Pard ,I know that is a letdown........Dusty

Dusty, I'm tempted to keep it as I would pay that or more for a bag mold for my .40 flinter, and it's a good story. I'll think about it, and contact the seller at least so he or she knows this didn't play out as expected.

That's the way to look at it Pard, It is sad that some folk are like that. Good Luck .....Dusty

Bill,
Sorry to hear that the mold was not as expected.  It appears that the round ball is not so round due to the way oversized flat.

With enough heat the filling could be melted out without hurting the mold, although the one side of the round ball appears to intrude into the block.

If you keep the mold, I would ask the seller for at least a partial refund.

Sorry to hear about the mold but i`d probably do what your doing but i think i`d let the seller know about it.

Next time you talk to Roy tell him Pitchy is still waiting for his prize for the coolest can crusher.

Guys, after thinking it over, I raised an issue with eBay and the seller will take it back for a full refund. I think this is probably the right outcome, considering the conversion was not well done and I can see enough gap that any round ball would have rings of Saturn fins ...

I guess we all can learn from this deal Bill. I shop E-bay for bullet mould's ect. and have been lucky so far ,but after seeing that mould, I will ask more question's in the future .Before long a good one will come along for you Bill........Dusty.

Very pleased to say the seller was apologetic and immediately authorized a full-refund return.
