I don't currently own a Spencer and would like to know if there are any special problems with the
44-40 Spencers that Armi Sport and is now making. I have owned and shot several models of the
Civel War era breech loading carbines but have been thinking of the Spencers for a while.

I have all the reloading componets and equipment for 44-40 and it would be an economical caliber
for me.

The Armisport Spencer carbine in 44-40 is probably one of the best shooting carbines in the Armisport series.  In my opinion the 44-40 is much more accurate than either the 45LC or the 56-50 version.
I mostly shoot blanks out of mine but on the few times I tried it live it did a very good job.  I have shot several thousand blanks out of my 44-40 Spencer and have had very few problems.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

I've been shooting a Spencer in 44-40 for about 3 years in monthly SASS matches.  It's accurate and very reliable.  I will say that, once you get one - new or used - tighten every screww you see.  In addition, mine is a little picky about OAL so you may have to experiment.
For the money, I don't think there is a more fun rifle to shoot that's legal in SASS, NCOWS and GAF.  Of course, you won't break any speed records.

All Spencers are sensitive to OAL regardless of caliber.

I bought one of these carbines in .44-40 from "Major" and thus far, has performed excellent. Granted, I have not shot it alot but it functions quite well. One must work the action vigourosly, a timid stroke doesnt cut it. Quite accurate actually. I have yet to use it in a match. Once you get the flow of stroking the action & cocking the hammer, it is fast enough.........until you run out of bullets. Massive style points tho............My opinion is that you will have a blast with the AS Spencer in .44-40.
I remain, respectfully,
