Those are neat.  I've got a partially done cylinder I use for a pencil holder, but those look great.

DagNabIt

Yep.  They are cool.  Got a couple myself  :)

He is also selling off Lightning rifle stocks and receiver castings on GunBroker.com.  One item of interest that he was selling, and apparently has already sold, was a frame casting for an 1875 Remington.  Probably a leftover from USFA's ill-fated attempt at reproducing the '58 & '75 Remingtons.

Wow, better rush.  I went over to Gunbroker and typed in "USFA".  Came up with about 25 Zips for sale.  They seem to be going for about $250.00.  This is probably the entire production run so better hurry!  :)

Capt. John Fitzgerald

Those $250 prices you see are the "buy it now" prices.  From what I have seen, most of the actual bids are usually under, and don't exceed, $200.  Big change from when the ZiP was first introduced.  Bidding on USFA SAA's is usually pretty strong.

USFA actually made a couple of Remingtons.  2 engraved 1858s and one 1875.  They were a few others made for the Shot Show (2008 or 2009) that never had the hand channels cut.

Lots of Zips on GB with no bids.  It's been like that for awhile.  Also see some USFA SA where the story doesn't match the pictures.  If any one needs original USFA parts from screws to barrels/cylinders, I have a source.

What other makers parts will fit on the USFA frame?
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

GaryG

Uberti screws, bolts and hands will fit.  With a little fitting, probably the tube and late model hammers.  Don't know if the barrels are timed to the frames.  By timed, I mean the barrel, when hand tightened should leave the front sight in the one o'clock position.  If it's at some greater than that, the shoulder will have to be cut back which will affect the barrel cylinder gap.  If it's less than one o'clock or goes by the 12 o'clock position, the shouder will again have to be cut back.  Again the barrel cylinder gap will have to be adjusted but also the since the ejector tube screw hole is much clocer to the frame, the tube will have to be modified also.  The hole spacing on the BS & TG are the same but that should be true for SAs in general.  Also many a Colt entered the USFA factory and left with other than Colt parts.

And the Colts were there because.....?

I'm kinda surprised to learn they used so many metric parts, did they subcontract to Uberti?

USFA was not an authorized repair facility for Colt but there was an employee there who could fix anything.  He didn't work on 3ds, just 1st & 2nd as wells as other older handguns.   He's also a fine engraver.

Regarding the screws.  Could be wrong but I think Uberti no longer uses metric screws.  USFA made the switch from metric but long before I got there.  They kept a supply of metric for the older guns.  USFA screws will work in a Colt with the following exceptions.  The trigger and bolt screws will work in a 2nd but not a 1st.  The hammer screw will work in a 1st but not in a 2nd.  The Colt crosspin assembly was slightly smaller in diameter than the USFA.  USFA did make both sizes.

Most of you also know the USFA cylinder was slightly larger in diameter than a Colt cylinder.  USFA also made Colt sized cylinders in 32-20 thru 45.

Capt. John Fitzgerald

I seem to recall, back in the VERY early days of USFA, their offering (or perhaps implying) a Colt restoration service.

Most all Colt & Italian makers. Dimension wise, they all are almost identical.

Barrel threads are coarser on 1st, 2nd Colt's, Uberti's and USFA's and finer on 3rd Colt's and Rugers.
