Hello All,

Anyone one have the Spencer rifle in 45LC?  Opinions and/or impressions?  100yrd Accuracy?

Thanks - Pvt Greg

If you ever have any intentions of shooting Black Powder, then you best get it in 44-40. The blow back on the 45LC will really dirty things in the action.

I recently bought a Taurus Colt Lightning in 45LC and couldn't shoot it without wearing a welding mask! At COW BOY ACTION loadings the blow back was horrible. I rebarreled it to 38-40 and now it is a dream to shoot with both smokeless and black powder.

Will not be legal for the N-SSA - must be in .50 or .56 caliber.

Already have one in 56-50.  This would be for cowboy and maybe the monthly long distance matches.  Bullets are cheaper.  a LOT cheaper.

Seconds on this. I just got one from Terry S. and it is a beautiful carbine. I have only shoot it at 25yds at this time and it is very accurate at that range (unsupported shooting). IMHO, I should think that the .44-40 will be better at the longer ranges than the .45Colt. I have found that to be the case in my Winchester .45 vs my Henry .44WCF anyway. Terry has another new one available in a seperate listing. The .44WCF versions are less known and from what I could learn, harder to find. Cant go wrong there for CAS although, dont look be to the fastest shooter on the line. You will have very high style points tho.

I don't know how they would function in a Spencer, but 45 schofields have less blowback than 45 LC, and that takes care of the bullet cost.

PvtGreg

They don't issue the rifle in schofield.  I specifically what the rifle.

Is anyone producing the rifle in any other calibers than the .56-50 & .44-40? I have not seen one offered in .45Colt from any of the usual suspects. Perhaps I am missing something?

Taylors and Cimarron both sell them in 45LC.  I think Chiappa is just slow in production.

If the O.A.L. is in spec, the 45 Schofield will function in a 45 L.C.- same reference as a 38 in a 357, or a 44 spec. in a 44 Mag.
