Now I like this list better than the one I saw here last week. IMO "Tombstone" is a little to low on the list.... ;)

Thanks Slim...

I agree. I would not have had "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" at the top either. Also, where is "Crossfire Trail", "Quigley Down Under", and "True Grit". "Last of the Mohicans, The", "Old Yeller", and "Shenandoah" should not be on a Western list unless "The Alamo" is on it also.

"Unforgiven" sure should rate higher than Clint's spaghetti Westerns.  "True Grit" or "Rooster Codburn" aren't on there at all  ???

Slim,

Any idea who conducted this here poll? ???  With the names of some of these in Italian it would appear a eouropean influence.  :P  I kinda like Red River to be higher to along with the Magnificent Seven!

It is conducted by IMDB with users' votes. Here are the formulas it used to calculate the results.
QuoteThe top movies report uses a weighted rank calculated as follows:

weighted rank (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

where:
R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the top 50
      (currently 200)
C = the mean vote across the whole report
      (currently 6.9)/quote]

Agree with some of the comments already made about films which aren't really "westerns", and also regarding some good 'uns conspicuous by their rather surprising absence.

Here's another:  I figure "Hang 'Em High" shoulda made the top 50!
Rattlesnake Jack Robson, Scout, Rocky Mountain Rangers, North West Canada, 1885
Major John M. Robson, Royal Scots of Canada, 1883-1901

Was "Shenandoah actually a Western?? ??? I guess it did take place in Western Virginia. ::)

It is better than some lists I have seen. The absense of True Grit leaves me scratching my head a little. No Tom Selleck flics is just flat wrong. Some even say he is the John Wayne of the new millenium. I don't know if I agree but he is one class act and cowboy through and through.
