This is a repeat of a post I made on the 'Wild Bunch' forum.

After shooting one of my 1911's for the first time, my wife has decided to shoot WB and perhaps try a 1911 in IPSC as well, as her SR9's.
She wants a LH holster to do double duty for both sports, so it has to meet the IPSC and WB criteria with a covered trigger guard and leather up to the ejection port. If that is covered as well, that's fine.

She'd like the gun butt above the top of the belt for ease of draw.  Suggestions? Offers? Pics?

The Chapman High Ride was a traditional style holster that should fit the requirements of both sports.  I think it was actually born into the early IPSC game.  These can occasionally be found used on Ebay but a scan down the page linked to here will turn up a beautifully tooled copy of one by CQMD.  I do believe that she will find the mag pouches to be far more important to the times than will be the holster BUT these holsters were not slouches in their day, by any means!   http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,41864.0.html

Thanks for the reply, Slowhand! And the link to my earlier inquiry.

I do well remember the Chapman "Hi-Ride" and my Sparks-made (muzzle forward cant) version is very similar. I've been wearing it around the house and I feel I have found my WB holster. Not exactly "western", but definitely competitive.

In fact, I'm going to wear it to our weekly IPSC practice. I bought a Blade-Tech OWB with two belt attachment options to re-audit the Black Badge course and I feel that I bought a high priced piece of plastic that I just can't adapt to. People that are just starting out see to like them, but REAL holsters are made from leather.

Miz Cara Boo Belle says she could be interested in such a holster, but wants to see some more examples of people's work.

The Chapman is a really great holster.  The milt sparks is 1at is another good one that some people seem to prefer the tension adjustment and can be ordered, I have heard, though they don't have it on their site.

Galco and Omega Training holsters are good

The problem is that in theory these are all steel lined competition holsters and therfore not acceptable for WB.

On the other hand, a lot of the WB holsters are designed for wide belts, have some drop, and normally do not have a 2xgun weight retention as far as I know.

If the idea is to save money, not sure how best to do that and have very similar rides. If the idea is to only learn one holster, then I think one could get a WB holster that was similar to an old Ipsc, or even a plastic IPSC, as far as positioning and rake, etc... are concerned.

Not all 1ATs are steel lined, or even lined.

I make those rigs for WB, and there is many people that use them for IPSC. Its metal lined at thw back of the pouch and over the belt so it come out from the body for easy draw and reholstring.
