Hello all! I'm new here on the forums and I have recently discovered the joy in owning and shooting conversion revolvers. My first is a Cimarron Man With No Name in 38 Special. Currently working on tracking down a Cimarron 1851 Richard Mason in 38 Special. I would really like to be a member of Storm! Thanks in advance!

Howdy, I've been a long time lurker, probably 2 years and just made the jump. My passion is Civil War and have/shoot just about all Uberti Colt replicas they have made from the Paterson to SAA. I have always looked to this forum to research not just the weapon but it's history. Thanks to all

Hi, I am new to CAS (a few months now), but have loved lever guns and single action revolvers for most of my life. My wonderful girlfriend saved up and gave me an 1851 Navy R-M conversion today for my birthday. I love the revolver and have been pining over one for some time. Count me as a member of STORM!

RattlesnakeJack

I've always been partial to the looks and handling of open-top revolvers, and have both an original and reproduction of the London Model 1851 Navy .... but don't shoot 'em much.

Last year, for CAS shooting I picked up a repro Richards Mason conversion in .45 Colt, and had a blast shooting it.  Then, just last week I made a deal to buy an "as new, in the box" repro Open Top ..... also in .45 Colt.  Don't have the latter in hand yet, but it should be along in a week or two (coming from the other end of the country ....)

At any rate, since I'll now be set up to shoot two "open top" revolvers, I figure its time I joined STORM.  Please sign me up!

Don't know if I quallify, haven't shot any matches, still in the process of saving up to get a lever action and a sxs, BUT I do shoot two cap and balls, a Pietta 1860, and a Pietta 51 Confederate navy sheriff on just about a weekly basis. The rifle and shotgun may have to wait, because the next payday it looks like it's going to be a Pietta Griswold and Gunnison. Just have a jones for Cap and balls, I don't even like shooting any of my cartridge guns anymore.  ;D

Just got my first open top! 7.5" .44 colt navy grip, no more SAA's for me. I've been converted. Most fun I've had shooting in awhile. Shot about 50 rounds of 2f with a BigLube and about 30 rounds with 5 grains of Unique. Fun little guns for sure, I wish I had gotten one earlier!! Now to find it a partner...

Mentioned above that I was getting an Open Top to go with my Richards-Mason.  Took a photo of the two together, but neglected to post it here:

I shot them in our autumn two-day shoot last weekend, and had a blast.  Need a bit more practice with them, but still managed to place first in my class (....which I admit was rather small, but at least I wasn't the only one in it!)

Rattlesnake, what load are you shooting in your .45?

My CAS load for years has been 6.0gr Win231 with a 250gr bullet.  Am thinking that is a bit spicy for these open-tops, and may drop the powder charge somewhat ....

I tried 5 grains of unique in my 44 colts, it was really light and fun to shoot. I don't have a chronograph, but I shot up around the junk pile on our farm and I know they can go through an old wood dresser and table just fine. I used big lube and lee 200 grn 429's. No signs of over pressure. I'm not sure how those 45 loads would do, I know guys use them in the open tops. I got my first SAA in 45 colt after my Schofield because the 45 Colts were knocking the lever apart and spilling my shells everywhere .That was with factory winchester cowboy loads too. I wish I'd kept it, I sold it off back before I started reloading. Wish I still had it to try some 45 schofields in it or some really watered down colt loads. Maybe someday I'll get another one...after my spencer...and rolling block
