I can't find any info for my 16 ga.
Can any one help with links or info?

Hollow Sky Soldier,

Sorry, I can't offer much help on the 16 ga.
I have only loaded and shot 12 ga. BP.
However, if you think down loading some of that info may help you... I will be happy to share.

One other area you might check, "The Parker Collectors' and Shooters Organization  of America". I am not altogether sure if this is the correct name, but you might try several variations within your search.
I hope you find this helpful,

Hey, Frisco.
Thanks much, that's what I was lookin' for.

Hey, Blair.
Thanks for the input. I also load 12 ga. (for my coach gun) and have them pretty much figured out. I was looking for a good starting point for my 16.

Mostly I use 7/8 oz to 1 oz. of shot with an equal volume of powder OR LESS.  (Basically a 20 gauge load.)

Its all one needs unless hunting.  Then I'd go to 1 1/8 oz and an equal volume of powder.

What Sir Charles says.  He got it right.  FWIW, I also like to load fiber wads only.  Don't much care to clean out melted plastic.

I've got a couple bags of Remington 16ga empties that take 57* primers and I don't have any 57* primers.  So I'm going to post them for sale in the Classifieds section.

Fer SS....

FWIW....

I use 1oz of shot and my Holy Black charge is 70gr this is in a brass shell, works well fer me, avoid Plastic cups, Stick to felt type wads, BP and plastic make for a nice goo lined barrel.

there is a 16Ga society which is interesting stuff if you have a 16Ga, I think that is their name. I don't know if they are into BP, but I suppose a lot of their shotguns would have damascened barrels, so maybe they have.Worth a look anyway.

I agree with Sir Charles for black powder and, if you use fiber wads, you can easily adjust the wad column for fit.

If you want to load smokeless I would suggest a book called The Sixteen Gauge Manual from  Ballistic Products.  It lists about any recipe you might want.

16ga.com

A member has several load data tables for almost any choice of 16 ga. suitable components.  There is a "low pressure group" on a subscription basis.  All loads are either gathered from recognized sources or have been submitted to a professional pressure test.

This is a great forum for sixteen gauge lovers.

Lucky and Sir Charles are right on the money. That is the site and I also have the book, I was trying to think what the title was and where it came from (mine is buried in a pile of junk in my 'office.') Both are excellent resources.

Both worth checking out.

I always been looking for a used 20Ga SxS shotgun and searched without success (they are pretty rare here in Australia and the ones you see are usually high dollar ones).

I have always been curious about 16Ga shotguns after seeing them as a boy realllll cheap as ammo was not available then. I bought a 16 about a year ago, but have had my tail in a sling for a lot of different reasons and haven't used it. I bought a slab of 250 and they mixed hunting and target loads, so I'm good to go ammo wise. Danged if I can get any brass shells and the ammo is expensive, I don't fancy trashing the hulls after a single BP load that would be an expensive process.

The problem might have been solved by my old mate, retiring from shooting, I have bought his 20Ga Grucelli which is looking like a contender for cowboy with brass shotshells and the 16 well be a critter hitter afield. I haven't got the 20 yet, there is some ammo with it apparently(I have a whole passel of slug loads I picked up when I bought a 222/20Ga Savage). So the 20 will be the cowboy iron and the 16 the hunting gun. That's the plan anyway, lol.

I like the idea of the 16, a real link to the old days, a hunting tool which would have bought a lot of food to the table.

Them 16ga Remington plastic shells went back on my shelf.  Found a guy that had some 57* size primers that he sold to me for a fair price.

The 16ga is probably the best balance of power, pattern and recoil going for SASS shooting.  I have two of 'em.  One's a 97 and the other is a 311.  Love 'em both.  FWIW the 16ga 97 has the same ejection port as the 12ga.  This means over the top feeding is easier.  Now if I could only get my thumbs sorted out.

For loading, I use 1oz of shot and 90% of the same VOLUME of powder.  First goes in primer, then powder, then nitro card wad and fiber cushion wad.  Then shot and over shot card.  I like to close with a nice firm roll crimp.  Lord, lord, love the smoke and flames.  KDs topple, swingers swing and flying clay birds turn to powder if I point well.  Life is good.

Heh! Paladin;  Perhaps the stock is too straight, rather than the cast-off normal for Eurpoean game guns

You might try holding the gun to your shoulder with your left hand while reaching down to the shell belt with the right and throw them in one at a time.  You might be able to work up to two at a time but singly can work.  I even saw a guy hit reaction-doubles that way.
