Major 2

It's for a friend

This is an old steel frame 51 ( replica to be sure )
I think circa early 70's  ( friend said the guy he got it from said  "from DGW" )
My Friend has had it rolled in and old t-shirt since 1983, only seen light once or twice in that time.

It's either <COM> or maybe early Euro arms  , it has had a hack job defarbing ( Dremel tool )

It has been re-marked  HARPER & BURR  MACON  GA  top flat   &  CS  Pat. May 4  1864  with single stamps on the flat next down right-side.
No finish except has a spotty rust brown patina.... and has Cyl. scene

I have to file & polish right side flat to correct the Dremel mark ....
I'll leave the Stamps they are not anything correct... but is unique  :-\

Nipples are mushroomed , they may be fun replacing  ::) ... I'll cleaned and degunked & smoothed the innards.
I need to tap or chase the TG threads.

Looks like an interesting restoration project.  Maybe you could keep us updated with start to finish photographs.

OK... here is the barrel

you can clearly see the offending Dremel wound

Maj 2,

Looks like its either gonna be a fun project or a royal PITA.  Sme of those divots could stand a conversation with a tig welder, the restore the barrel flat.  Just a suggestion.

Took some work it did, but not to bad...

I had to make 3 screws ( the 2 behind the trigger (TG) were missing & one of the 2 by the hammer (BS) was stripped )

Cleaned and deburred the acition and polished the Main a tad, replaced the hand (spring was brolen)
repaired the Dremel damage, polished and added patina back to the barrel, also recrowned the muzzle.
The sight was missing so I added one and staked the rammer catch.

It still needs nipples, these will work , but I suggested Tresco, Owner may get a Drop-in conversion though.
The grips are some from an original 51, I found some time ago in a $1 parts basket  ;D

The gun is tight and locks up fine.

Owner is very happy with the old rat !

Major 2,

Turned out pretty good? And you did it pretty quick.

Okefinokee Outlaw

Major,  Just a general question on defarbing.  How does one know how much metal to remove and still have the gun safe to shoot?

I look at it like this, the depth of the letters don't weaken the barrel , filing to that depth will not either...

there plenty of meat on 36 Cal. anyway
