Here's the letter I got back from Star Line.  It seems that the C45Spl does have a good chance of being made again.  Just where to buy it remains a question.  I'm going to be buying some when it surfaces again.

Dick,

We produced .45 Cowboy Special brass for Adirondack Jack exclusively. We are giving him a little bit of time to get his business sold before taking over production of this caliber in case the purchaser would like to continue carrying it. (Honestly we wouldn't have had any time to produce it with the market being as it is now anyway).

Although I'm not a reloader of the CB 45 brass, Starline must be 'swamped' with orders. See on their web-site, many of the popular calibers are are on a back order status or they state no-back orders accepted. Back in the last week of December I ordered some 44 Colt and 45 acp brass. The 44 Colt were shipped right away, but a month backorder were noted on the 45 acp's. Took almost 2 months to receive, they advised me things were 'hectic' around there trying to fill orders when I called them about the status of the order before receiving the 45's.

This Year at Winter Range the swap-meet was held and I was surprised to find a 250 piece Box of Starline 44WCF brass un-opened on a tabe for $50.00. Needless to say I bought it quickly.

DD; If you get some Cowboy special brass, count me in for 500. :-\

I'll be watching this as it develops.  I know one very good vendor that is/was interested in the C45Spl brass.  If he picks it up you can be sure it will be made available.  If no one gets interested, I may add it to my product line.  Keep an eye on this thread from time to time for updates.

As a former Dark Sider, I loved the Cowboy 45 Special!  I still shoot it smokeless in my Bisleys......so when Gunstock Smith and I found out that AJ was wanting to sell out, we talked it over and decided that we could add it to our stock business. The deal is now complete and we have placed our first order with Starline.  They are saying 10-12 weeks and we should have 100K pieces of brass. For more updates go to: www.cowboy45specialbrass.com.

The line continues!!  ;D

This is great news.  I'll be checking in to your web site periodically to learn of availability.

All the best to you Miss Cubbie.  Looks like Texans are doing it again.  I may move there one day.

I am really happy to see this work out, it is my favorite pistol brass for use in SASS along side the 44-40 in rifle.  I take it that the ultralite cup shaped 45 bullet that AJ had designed will not survive the transition?  It is likely that this would be as light as one could design a .45 caliber bullet that would work in a revolver load.  Knowing it was very slow to produce these as a production item, I had hoped he might try to market a mold for them in some form but I guess it was not in the cards.

After ordering a lot of Schofield brass, I found that my Starline dealer still had some Special brass in stock but didn't show them on his website!!!!

He's in Canada.  No use to you, but try your own dealer in the US.

Sorry to say, but the carriers are on hold for the moment. We have found that the design that was used before was unreliable....ask Goatneck Clem what happened to him at EOT this year..... :-\.    Gunstock has had a few ideas, but several have come up short on the practical side. His original idea is still workable, but will take more time to work out all the "bugs." We haven't given up on it happening!  The months of Nov and Dec we are working at Speedbump M-Th and taking Fridays off so that we can get to work on this. His idea is really simple, but will take some doing to make it happen. We won't do anything if we can't make it reliable..... :)

Heres some Cowboy 45 brass next to Schofield brass. 150 grain semi wads and 160 grain RNFP bullets.

My C45S brass was delivered most pronto.  Pretty as a prom queen.  I went a little off the recommend procedure and used 45 Colt dies to load them. I found I had to resize them.  I always try to load new brass without resizing and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I also found that chamfering the inside and outside of the case mouth helped. They look good and shoot well.

Fredcdobbs

I've been using 455 Webley Lee dies with a proper 45 Colt shell holder. The dies set comes with a 45 Colt sizing die.

knucklehead

love this shell. i use the 45 colt sizing die and use 45 acp dies to do the rest.
