Okay fellers. Been using Goex 3Fg for my revolver loads. Now then, I have a couple pounds of DuPont Superfine 3Fg and a couple pounds of Hodgdon 3Fg, both are older cans. Is there any appreciable difference in the 3 powders to be aware of in loading? I cant imagine there would be, still.................

You probably won't notice much difference between the Goex and Dupont, they're pretty much the same powder.
Hogdons however was Curtis and Harveys repackaged in Hogdon cans. Back in the 70's that was supposed to be great powder, but what of it I shot didn't convince me to quit the Goex/dupont, which was a good thing on account of C&H/Hogdon's left the market, Goex stayed..

Unless you are into collecting, load 'em, shoot 'em, enjoy.  When you have need of new powder give Goex, Schuetzen and Swiss a look.  Depending on your pocket book depth Schuetzen is a good middle ground.  Swiss is great, but spendy.  Goex is undergoing some re-labeling and you will have to do your homework go get the product you want.

Congratulations on getting your hands on some great old original black powder.  Take notes and report back please.

SASS shooting is so close it won't make any difference.

C&H was clean, but very slow. That's no problem in a long muzzle loader when you can just put in 10% more, but in cartridges or revolvers, velocity is lower. For SASS you'll never notice. We're not exactly looking to stop bears.  ;D

don't think you'd want to for SASS shooting, but if you like to shoot a lot, and don't mind dirty, makin yur own is very cost effective. I use my homemade quite a bit.

Trooper, based on my testing of some C&H powder, vintage 1950's I have to disagree with your statement.  Slow it is not!
Background:
* A poster on the ASSRA site came into the possession of a 5# can of Austin Powder Company powder that was marked Curtis & Harvey
* Years back, I came into good fortune to obtain a large supply of Meteor, vintage 1973, made in Great Britain which after deep data searching - I was convinced was C&H processed powder by Nobel or left over inventory.  Nobel bought C&H in 1967
*  I asked the ASSRA poster if he would send me some for testing - which he did
*  Here is the results of the detailed testing of my Meteor compared to the Austin powder, marked Curtis & Harvey ...
http://www.assra.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1312504876/2=2

Note all the conditions that a powder can be tested to including the velocity ... deemed to be FFg

Now, compare the velocity of the C&H Austin powder and Meteor using the same bullet and rifle to the same powder charge of the 2010 lot of FFg KIK - by far one of the better powders on the market today ... http://www.schuetzenpowder.com/forum/index.php?topic=107.0

You will note the Austin C&H & Meteor have a velocity range as the KIK ... definitely not "very slow"

Accordingly, I am convinced that my Meteor powder, vintage 1973, in several grades is in fact Curtis's & Harvey's powder ... But not the Diamond # 6 C&H that was the best of the best during their production era

Loaded some of the DuPont in for my new Open Top .44 Russian. As soon as the snow leaves, out to the range with 'em. Wonder if the empty cans are worth anything? My CivWar unit went to KIK powder a couple of years ago with good results, for blanks anyway. Once I am out of this "antique" stuff, will probably switch to KIK. Anyone have experience with KIK in cartriges?

Figured it would be. We were able to reduce our blank charges from 85gr to 80gr (.69 cal) and 65gr to 60gr in our .58 caliber blanks. We did not lose any noise quality. couple of bucks cheaper than GOEX as well.

Shoots cleaner than any other powder currently on the market as well.

Not for the white and red metal cans.  10 bucks tops if the can is next to new
