I found this on another site.  It's a bit outside the interests of some here but other may want to note it.

The USS Texas Great War Living History Crew is set to be aboard Battleship No. 35, USS Texas, for the 100th anniversary of her commissioning on March 12th, 2014. We hope some of you folks can join us aboard the battleship located at the San Jacinto Park in Laporte, Texas. We'll be portraying the crew of the USS Texas during 1914 to 1918. A Vera Cruz display is expected to be done along with firing demonstrations on the grounds nearby the ship including a Colt 1895 'Potato Digger' in which case two were aboard the battleship when she was at Vera Cruz. Rope tying and lessons for the public are expected to be done along with tours of the USS Texas showing the lifestyles of the crew compared to the officers during WWI. If the 5"51 caliber gun is in working condition by the time of the event we will plan a blank firing gun drill on the 5"51 caliber gun. Many other plans in the works in coordination with the Texas Parks and Wildlife ship's director and the Battleship Texas Foundation.

I don't have a URL at this time.  I'm sure one will come up before too long and I'll add it.

Ah, the USS Texas.  That was the first ship my father was assigned to when he joined the Navy in 1926.  He retired in 1956 as a CPO.

I met a old gent (salt) in the Hospital, who served on the Texas at Normandy.
I was fasinated by his stories.

Later he was reasigned to the Pacific ,and served on the Ben Franklin and was aboard when she was heavly damaged at Okinawa.
He was aboard when she steamed back to the Brookyn Navy Yard for her re-fit.
She was not completed in time to re join the war as Japan had surendered.
He was a member of the Big Ben 704 Club.

I been aboard the USS Texas several times  ;D

I have fond memories of touring the USS Texas with my Dad, who was a WW2 Vet(Army Air Corps). in the early 70s. He was going through chemo at MD Anderson in Houston.

Major, I had an old girlfriend that worked for DeerPark PD as a dispatcher. Her Dad was a Customs Inspector at the Port of Houston. I went down there when I would visit Dad at MD Anderson. We went to Gilley's a couple of times, and you're right it was a dive.
