This came by way of FedEx today. I have to do a little filing on the sights I got for it, then I shall try er out at the range.

Cool.  Now all you need is one more, plus a Blunderbuss and a saber, and you're ready for Pirate Action Shooting, Aarrgghhh!!  ;D

We know that percussion revolvers and conversions were more plentiful in the settling of the west (due to cost) than the SAA's we see in the movies, and that the most important gun for many settlers was the shotgun, but I wonder how many of these old single shot pistols made their way west and ended up saving someone's bacon?

that's a good question. I'm sure some of the trappers took em out West with them, as well as some of the settlers who came with the wagon trains later.

I have one just like it.  Made from a kit purchased from Track of the Wolf in 1991.  I ended up filing out my own sights from bits of a 1/2" square mild steel bar.  Depending on the Nut-that-holds-the-butt, these guns are reliable, accurate & have enough power to getter dun :) :)

I have read several accounts of 'old west' knife versus gun fights and I'll bet there were at least a few incidents of single shot against revolver clashes.  It only becomes disadvantaged after the first shot is fired and it seems pretty common for the single shots to have been 50 calibers.  I would not even be surprised if a few stories are out there where the single shot muzzle loader had to face the big cartridge guns of the 1870s or later!  Not everybody rushed towards the new century at the same pace.
