I  have two Taylor Spencers. On the botton of one of them is a flat place. the other gun's follower is round and bullet shaped.  Does any one have any ideas why the follower had a flat place on it??

Shenandoah

To prevent a primer strike with centerfire ammo.

"O" do you half cock the hammer before you work the lever?? that's what i saw about shooting the spencer

Shenandoah

I don't. I full cock the hammer before working the lever. But, that should make no difference with a flat on top of the follower.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

I have two 56-50 spencers their serial number are like 5 numbers different. one has a flat spot in the folllower in the magazine tube and the other rifle has a bullet shaped follower with no flat spot. I could send pictures but this system baffels me. and i'm not able to send pictures on this site. I can sent them on gun broker but not here.

Shenandoah

I'm guessing one follower was for an original Spencer?

PM Two Flints and ask him if he would post picts for you.

There are many others on this board with much more knowledge than me and picts would help.

Pakm,

You should contact Taylors for a replacement follower. The pointed follow is designed for a rimfire gun like the originals and cannot be used in a centerfire gun. Use of this follower could cause an explosion in your magazine.

Pakm,

Send the photos to me at fsgrand2@fairpoint.net and I will post them for you.  Just make sure they are clear and sharp and with sufficient lighting . . . 1078 x 768 pixels in size or bigger

On centerfire, you half or full cock the hammer, to retract the firing pin, else it can be difficulr to work the lever
