It's been awfully quiet on here; TOO quiet!

Not a lot of discussion here lately.  What's everyone got going on in the GAF world?  As for me, I'm trying to finish up about 15-20 more reactive targets for our shoots here as well as the Department of the Missouri Muster, I'm working on a moving target or two for the same, and I'm experimenting with some quarter scale targets to use with .22's.  More to come!

I have a new R&D conversion cylinder for my Uberti 1858 Remington Navy. Placed it in the frame and went to cock it and immediately broke the trigger bolt spring.
Unfortunately, like so much of everything else in the firearms industry, replacement parts (chant it along with me . .) are on backorder.

I'm hoping to shoot it this year.

I have sold off a bunch of my old rifles to buy something new and fun. When I have raised the capital I will let you know more. If all goes right I will be bring it with me to Nebraska. It will be worth the wait!

I finally bought my first 1911 - plan to shoot it in the Expansion Era match.  Maybe if Pitspitr doesn't have to rush off we'll get in a little zoot shooting now that he knows how it's done.

Made it through Christmas, playing with sourdough again, my bring some this year if it don't look like it will be to hot.  ::)

If it's real hot we may not have enough guns and ammo to stop the stuff. ;)

Not a whole lot shaking GAF wise in my world right now.  I am waiting for several items ordered in August and September to arrive.  There is the Dirty Billy's 1872 Infantry officers Shako in 1876 dress (rifles vs horn) that has still to arrive.  Not sure why I cared about the rifles vs horn thing as the Plumes will hide either.  I did receive my Milkcreek Sky Blue CW trousers.  As stated before they are well made but with 20oz are they period correct??  Still waiting on the two frock coats (JR & Senior officers the SR will be a not bad approx of the 1879 JR Frock Coat) and the infantry officers overcoat.  I am sorta mixing that one ordered a CW Dark Blue coat and am having it made double breasted I believe with the 1872 Captains braid on the sleeve.  Milkcreek does great work but they certainly do not waste valuable production time repsonding to e-mails.  If you get Theresa on the phone she is wonderful to work with though.

I am still debating the acquisition of CW Captains Epaullettes.  The leeast expensive of which would have covered 2 or 3 cars that ran when I was in high school.

I did pick up a non regulation 1860 staff field officers sword.  Only has the Guard on one side a small blade catcher on the medial aspect as held in right hand.  There were a couple of very nice specimans on EBay that sold for a few dollars more than I was willing to go.  Who knows how much higher they would have gone were I willing to come off an extra C note.

Gearing up for winter range, once again will be on the color guard.  Hope to serve with Cowtown Scout and Lew Grant on that one.

If I can get away from the house saturday (have mom duty) I will go to pioneer village at noon and link up with a reenactor point of contact.  I am going to Gettysbureg for the 150th.  Spectator or Reenactor still and open question.  May selttle for being a uniformed spectator.

I also got an 1860 spencer this year. I am not sure how she will shoot so I opted for buying a mold and some of the rimfire substitute cartridges. I loaded up the 10 I have yesterday and hope to get it out to the range a week from Sunday. If it shoots well I will look into the CF conversion breachblock.

I forgot, I decided to be the last of my local gardening friends to give it up for the winter, had a fresh spinach salad again last night and the rest have went down in defeat.  I'm done till it thaws and it starts growing again. ;D

Been a bit busy with family here, welcoming our new daughter last Thursday!

Not muchshooting activities happening here, lost an auction or two for bayonets. Had to take a break from reloading, my ancient Lyman scale fell apart-beam and the pivot part seperated. put it back together, but won't weigh consistently now. Gonna have to replace it I guess.

Ned, how can I get a pattern for the Blunt targets? I have some scrap steel, I thought I might try to make a few. Did you ever try making them with just a foot on the bottom, like the long distance rams, pigs etc?

Niederlander

Congratulations on the new daughter, Pony!

I'm in the process of drawing the target stands for the blunt targets now.  Might even have that done today, if things go reasonably well.  When I get that package of stuff finished, I'll send you one if you message me with your address.  I know Hopalong wants them, too, so I'll try to get it all done in the next couple of days.

To answer your question, I've only tried the flat base on the prone targets.  The others may be too heavy and tall for that, but I don't know for sure.

Actually given the size of the popper targets the KVC use at Garnett I'll bet you could do it if you used big enough bases. I think they use the base plates that the railroad drives spikes through.

I thought the KVC plates that simply had a hole drilled in the bottom for a short length of rebar to stick in worked great, very simple and effective.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Stu Kettle

They had some of both - a tie plate foot on some & the rebar pin on others.  I thought the rebar trick was pretty ingenious.

Me too.

Although some of our 'poppers' are welded to RR base plates.
