I'm finally back in AZ for the winter and thought it might be a fun project to make a shoulder holster.  I have Al Stohlman's booklet - "How to make  Holsters" in which there is a pattern on page 31.

Has anyone used this pattern - and if so - any suggestions or any changes that you'd make in it?

Is there a better pattern out there besides this one?

I was thinking of making this for a short barreled SA.  I thought I'd cut the pattern out of manila file paper and try fitting it to myself prior to cutting leather.  I've never done a shoulder holster so am open to any suggestions anyone might have.

I have a copy of "Packing Iron" as well and have looked at the different designs in that.  I'd like to make the shoulder harness so that I could possibly interchange holsters on it as well.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are working from Al Stohlman's booklet then you should be all right. The cardboard/manila pattern idea is a good one. Don't forget to save the patterns after you cut out the leather. Good luck. I use poster board. It's cheap and comes in sheets much larger than the manila folders so I can get the belts and long pieces all on one piece of posterboard.
I will no longer respond to the rants of the small minded that want to sling mud rather than discuss in an adult manner.

There was a western style pattern out at one time but I do not know if it is stall available.  It was one of the Jim Simmons patterns, marketed by HideCrafters, and perhaps someone here could help with locating either him or his pattern?  Seems someone on here once mentioned that he frequented another leather site regularly but my old memory doesnt come up with anything.

Jim Simons used to hang out on Leatherworker.net. Have not seen him in a while and he has not answered my emails. His site for etowah River leather says he is building a new site. Double K Leather Sales LLC sells some of his patterns including a shoulder holster pattern. http://www.doublekleather.com/index.php/shop-online/educational/patterns/gun-leather.
