Cuts Crooked

Hey pards, I was recently given a Stevens 311, made by Savage, in 16 gauge. I'd like to replace the butt stock. Brownells lists a walnut stock for the 311 in 12 gauge. I need to know if the 16 uses the same frame as the 12, or is it based on the 20 gauge version?

Anyone?

I think all 4 gauges are on their own frame if I remember right.

Howdy Cuts,

I have Savage/Stevens 311s in 29ga, 16ga and 12ga.  I'd have one in 10ga if they ever made one.

All the different gauge guns look to have their own size stocks.  That makes the lil 20ga a mere rabbit's foot.  The 16ga is the best balance of power and recoil for SASS shooting.  The 12ga is, well, a 12ga and it handles like one.  I'd sure like a 10ga 311.  It'd be a hoot to shoot where the KDs fall hard.

As for wood, if you are able, I have some crotch cut walnut that will make a beautiful stock.  It's free to you if you are interested.  The blanks are rough sawn and complete carving is needed to make a fine shotgun stock.  But, when done, you'll have a one of a kind that fits you perfectly.

Let me know.

I have two 311s, a 12 gauge and a 16 gauge. As far as I can tell they share the same size frame.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

My post WW11 Savage Fox B 16 ga. is on a smaller frame than my 311 12 ga. Most likely a 20 ga. frame.

What I'm finding out is that the stocks, and frames, were all over the place! Some had a "square frame" some  a "notched frame", and tang length is all over the place! Mine happens to be a notched frame.

The reason I want to restock it is because a previous owner had the stock modified because he was blind in one eye. Imagine a very deep reversed beaver tail cheek piece hollowed out of the stock! :o

Dick, Thanx fer the offer. I have the skills to restock this, and I already have a nice walnut blank that's been setting around the shop for years, but I was hoping to avoid that because of the time factor.....I don't have a lot of that these dayz. :'(

Typo. . .

But I do have some real nice crotch cut and burl walnut.  I've been hoarding it and need to make some stocks out of it, or something.
