Cross Draw Holster For 44 MAG Ruger?

I was out at the property last weekend, sat by the fire pit in the dark. The river flowing over the rocks in front of me and the forest past that, lite by the moon on a clear cold evening. Very nice. My 44 Ruger blackhawk stuffed in my belt across my waist. It struck me that this was a very comfortable position for both sitting and just hanging around like this. However for walking around with this big gun, a holster in that position would be perfect.

So a cross draw holster, worn at the front at as level as an angle I can produce would be perfect.

anyone built or seen a holster design like this?

I'm a lefty, and carry my Flattop 44 mag Ruger in cross draw, I find it the best and easiest way for this big revolver, with the exception of a good shoulder holster, the cross draw leaves me faster access to my gun, and I find it easy to carry. the right hander I made for a friend, and the other is mine and has ammo slides.

Good looking holsters. So having made a couple of verticle holsters, it's how to accomplish the slant carry at the back of the holster that has me stumped a little.

Nice photos thanks.

If you wear your belt snug the holster will stay how you position it. If you wear it all hanging like they do in the movies then you may have to make the belt loop just fit the width of the belt and sew it on in the angle you want the holster.

Just depends on the holster and how the gun rides too.

That's a good though stitching the loop, I may have to build a whole new holster so that the top of the loop is at the same angle as the holster slant. Hate to have to adjust my belt every time I've eaten cowboy chili with beans ;)

This is what I've come up with. Pretty standard shape for the holster, but the belt loop canted to one side to angle the rig.

The loop will be stitched across the back following the holster contour for a couple of inches, then level with the loop top for the bolt guide and finish the triangle for strength. What think you?

Here it is stitched and drying from shaping. Looking forward to a trial wearing when it's dry.

Rides well on a standard belt and is easy to sit with. For walking side it a couple of inches to the side. Very happy with this so far. Now, how does it work for a weekend out at the property?
It should make a great crossdraw rig for the original belt and holster. Ah but wait, now I will need another gun to fill the strongside holster. Oh Darn.....  ;D
