I have not ever replaced a barrel, but I want to do it on my EAA Bounty hunter. I have two with 7 1/2" barrels now and I want to convert one of them to 5 1/2". Here are my questions:
1. Does a new barrel come with the forcing cone already cut or do I have to do that too?
2. Is it less trouble to cut down the barrel and recrown it than it is to replace it?
3. How critical is the cylander gap measurement? Can I just use a feeler guage to set that gap or do I need something special to do this?
I will no longer respond to the rants of the small minded that want to sling mud rather than discuss in an adult manner.

There are several other considerations too.  The new barrel may or may not index the front sight and ejector rod boss.  Yes you can use a feeler gage for barrel/cylinder gap, but you may need a facing cutter for final gap..  You will want to cut the forcing cone anyway, to 11 degrees.  I think you can only use an EAA barrel because of the threads.  I'd give them (EAA) a call on that.
I personally prefer to cut, recrown and do a new sight.  Less alignment problems.

+1 on cutting the barrel.  On the 7 1/2" you have plenty of material left to put on the new front sight.  If you are going from 5 1/2" to 4 3/4", then you need a new barrel as the sight groove will be right where you cut the barrel.

Gunparts.com in West Hurley NY has barrels available as of a few days ago.

If you change out the barrel you will need to set gap. and you'll need t9o cut a new forcing cone. All is done by hand using tools available from Brownells.

But if the new barrels tenon isn't long enough, you will need a lathe to set the barrel back one revolution and then set the gap and cut the forcing cone.
