Wish you the BEST of LUCK . If you have any luck sure hope you post a few pictures .

Well, the deer and I were not on the same schedule.  I will try again.  I had fun checking shot placement on paper though.  I was shocked at how little felt recoil the gun produces.  I figure it has been around 80 to 100 years since it has been shot.

IB: Man, what a hoot hunting deer with a Spencer.  There's a bunch of guys on this forum who are in the blind with you. Backstrap Bill here has pulled this off a couple of times.

Good luck, and enjoy that vintage hunting with the old gun.Dusty.

Boy, original sights on Spencer's sure are lacking.  If mine was a repro, I would mount a tang in a heartbeat.  Going to try again this afternoon.

Deer did not cooperate again today in a new location.  ::) here are a couple of action shots (correction inaction shots)

North Carolina does not allow hunting with firearms on Sunday.  Two more days in the season left.  Depending on weather, I will have the spencer in hand. ;D

Tell me about that bullet guide guys./ ::)

Ibgreen

Well, never got another chance with the spencer.  It will happen next season.  Monday I sat in a long range stand with my 30-06 and harvested a nice size doe (200 yard shot) and today was a washout.  I look forward to more range time and reloading for proper sized rounds.

That is the combination Spencer cut-off and cartridge guide often found on later model Spencers, especially the M1867.  The notch in the end of the guide ordinarily would straddle the extractor tooth on the breechblock (as did the standard cartridge guide in other models).  But the Spencer cut-off could also be pivoted slightly to the right, and in that position the tooth on the breechblock would hit the end of the cut-off and the breechblock consequently could not rotate far enough to allow another cartridge to feed from the magazine.

THANK YOU DJ! Now, my question is if you, or can you, put a center fire conversion block in this gun like the other Spencers, and if so, would the rifle then qualify as an 1865 model legal for N-SSA competition, and if so, IB are you ready to join the lethal Iredell Blues of Statesville and their hot shot repeater team with one Spencer on it already, namely me? If Tony Beck responds to this about his team, don't listen to him.

Thanks Eggman.  I would love to get together and check out your reloading setup one day.  n-ssa has always been on my list of hobbies to take up ( don't know why I did not do it when I was c/w re-enacting).  A young kid (5 year old) and a new career would keep me sidelined as of late.
