I got a new Uberti-made Colt Walker replica from Taylor's & Co. and I couldn't resist grabbing my old ASM Walker for some Josey Wales action.

Eastwood made it look so easy...it aint...

Great video, as usual, Mike.

We shoot a Josey Wales category at our local club (pistols at both rifle and pistol targets, thus 4 total pistols).  I have a pair of Dragoons and recently acquired a pair of ROA's.  I'm thinking I'll take the 4 of them to shoot a match one day - with the Dragoons at the rifle targets.  Should be a hoot - just hope the entertainment value for the posse is sufficient that they don't mind me not having time for many posse duties!   ;D

That is a great video!  I will have to try that with my 1858 Remingtons to see what it is like.  May also get a pair of Walkers for the fun of it.   ;D

Mike,
Excellent!  You could easily do as well as Josey since he was shooting blanks and didn't take the time to aim..........

Merry Christmas!

As a former owner of a couple of Walkers I enjoyed your video.  I did notice you forgot to spit before opening fire, though.

Great video Mike.  I love it when you make smoke.

"How is it on stains?"

Yeah, I should have done that.  ;D

Mike,

how do you situate the camera that makes it appear that you are shooting directly at it?

Rick

Bottom Dealin Mike

I put a camera directly behind the steel Evil Roy target, just peeking over Roy's hat...then I try to shoot Roy in the head. ;D

It takes a good 15 to 20 minutes just to set up each Bad Guy's View scene. First I focus and frame the shot by putting another camera/tripod where I intend to stand. Then I have to keep shooting test footage, and checking it and adjusting where I stand until the shot is framed the way I want it.

Then I turn on the camera, walk back to my mark and fire away. After that I check the footage, and if it's good...hooray! But, if the focus is to far off, or if I was out of position...or had a mis-fire... or I see that someone drove across the scene behind me...or a loud airplane flew over...I try it again...and sometimes again... ;D

Good video and shooting. Your video was very well done and will be a great help to others.

All your missing is dirty rotten scoundrels or at least a dog to spit on.

Eastwood was shooting blanks!

Good video, distances as viewed with a camera are often distorted and normally look closer together, especially with any sort of telephoto/magnifying lens.

I have never owned or fired a Walker, but they have always interested me and I have often scratched my head wondering how to avoid the drooping lever. I have dreamed up sliding clips that run along the barrel, etc, etc. I just had a thought, what if you removed the lever, got a magnet and stroked the magnet along the lever (on the top I suppose so that any marks would be hidden) until it was sufficiently magnetised? Maybe this would made the lever 'stick' to the barrel, just enough to help the clip hold it in place.

HaHa! Gotta be worth a try (if in fact the lever was steel).

I'm going to have to buy one of these big suckers one day.

fourfingersofdeath,

a bit of  leather lace, or less authentic but works well, a rubber O-ring, will take care of the issue with little effort.

Rick

Noz

A scrape of period correct bandanna will work as well.

Slowhand Bob

I have read some place that the trick Mike uses can be done to the extreme point of totally binding the little lever so perhaps a couple of more file strokes are in order??

Neither of my BIG Colts have been fired yet but I did finally manage to swing a Third Model Dragoon to accompany my Walker into battle.  Not sure whether to make holsters or shoulder slings for these big boys?  OH and I am thinking more along the lines of 30grs of black powder and changing my SASS alias to Chicken Bob!
