I need a basic set of screwdrivers to disassemble my Pietta 1898. Midway's site has mixed customer reviews on  Pachmyar, B Square, Forster, and Grace brands. On all of these, customers have said the tips are too soft or too brittle resulting in bending and breakage. I'd really appreciate some input from you guys. Thanks.

It all depends on why the person that posted broke or bent his screwdriver tip!!!!!!  The biggest problem with most gun screws is that people over-tighten them.  Then when you try to take them out it takes an impact driver.  At least two of the brands listed are old line excellent quality well-known brands.  ANY screwdriver set will bend or break if you put enough torque on them.  In fact, there are different schools of thought on the hardness of the tips.  If you make a tip hard, then it will tend to fracture when you apply excess torque.  If you make it a little softer, it won't fracture but it will bend/twist.  This is especially true of smaller tip sizes as the load is spread over a small area.  With ANY set from ANY manufacturer you will ultimately bend or break a tip.  It's part of the game.  Just buy a good set that, hopefully, the manufacturer sells replacement tips.  I carry a small set made by Chapman in my gun cart.  I have 3 or 4 extras of the most common sizes so when they break I can replace them.  At most large gun shows there will be a vendor selling Chapman screwdriver sets and they usually have extra tips.  At home I have a large full service set made by Brownells.  Brownells offers free replacements for bent or broken tips.

Thanks for bringing this up.  It reminded me that I need to order a couple of blades for my Chapman set.
