It says 500 fps more than any other rimfire. I believe that the 17HMR is about 2700fps. He talks about shooting a prototype rifle. If it is a hopped 22, ti would have been cheaper to chamber a strong 22 rifle. A 22lr @ 1300fps fired horizontally drops 18 inches at 100 yards. With the pbr of 250 yrds, it must be heavier than a 40gr 22 round.
10% more than rounds in its class. I am wondering whot his new round and rifle will fit. If you have a varmint/pest/small game riflle and reload, it would become "just because" rifle. If you didn't reload, then you would need another rifle (this one) to enjoy 33 1/3 % percent in savings over centerfire retail cost.

Would you guys get one if you had a 223, 22-250, etc.......and reloaded?

I don't see any advantage to it. Of course I reload so a rim fire large caliber round ain't real appealing.

I thought the subject was about a 300 Win. Mag. in a RIMFIRE?
And just for the record, yes, I would be looking a reloading to help save cost in the long term.

Reading some history of ammo I learned that one of the biggest faults of large caliber rim fire ammo was that the rim had to be easily crushed. The rim being part of the case, the whole case was rather soft. Especially with smokeless powder the cases tended to split or blow out due to the increase in pressure. BP wasn't much better, or so it was claimed.

That isn't how I read the article, unless the reference to .300 Mag is a wink-and-a-nod hint.  I read it as previewing a newer, faster rimfire cartridge in .17 or .22 caliber.  It should have a muzzle velocity of about 3200 - 3300 fps with a drop at 250 yards of about 4 inches when zeroed in at 100 yards or so.

So I am betting on a .22 caliber rimfire cartridge with a .17HMR style necked case and spitzer bullet to increase velocity beyond that of the .22 WMR and provide better aerodynamic stability.
