How close does a cylinder have to lign up with the barrel?

The reason I ask is I have 3 cylinders for my remmy. All 3 have bores that are on a .999 to 1.000 bolt circle. I was thinking of getting a conversion cylinder. The conversion cylinders I looked at held 6 rounds. But when I lay them out in cad the rims overlap each other. On a 1.010 bolt circle the rims just touch.

On some of the conversion cylinders the chambers aren't straight.  They are set on a very tiny angle to avoid the problem you note.

Thanks,

That explains how they do it. Had me wondering.

From what I remember... the R&D/Howells are bored at something like just 1 degree off... which supposedly doesn't effect accuracy but cants the bullets just enough, so that they don't touch each other and allows you to get 6 cartridges in the conversion cylinder.

Makes you wonder why we strive so hard for concentricity and bullet alignment when we reload, don't it? Obviously, there is some bullet straightening when it hits the forcing cone.

My Kirst 5 shot .45 Colt conversion cylinder look like it could be bored out to chamber 6 rds.

The Kirst could have been bored for six, but would have to angle as R&D does.  Look at the rachet, you can see there is one spaced differently, as the "safe" unbored segment is not as wide as the chambered segments.

Yep...tha different shaped ratchet tooth sticks out like a sore thumb. When I first saw that on my 1858's conversion cylinder, I thought it was made wrong.
