Will you be able to install choke tubes in the barrels ,  are they to thin ? Have always wanted one to use for a hunting shotgun . Wish I could get one with a 28 inch barrel .

These guns have a VERY limited market so I doubt they will go to the expense to offer longer barrels.  The barrels are probably thick enough for chokes, although an 87 with a 19 or 20 inch barrel ain't my idea of the ideal hunting gun.

Our club had its annual two day shoot this weekend.  One of our members that is a dealer brought one out to look at.  He wanted to know how to install a drop two and I said I could show him, but we would have to remove the carrier.  The two carrier screws came out very easily.  The parts look like fairly decent castings.  The breech is not like the IAC/Norincos that were imported the past few years.  The barrel/breech area actually looks more like a Chiappa, although this gun is decidedly not anyway near the fit and finish of a Chiappa.  The extractors, hammer, etc., were all very stiff and like I said earlier the gun will take a lot of TLC to make it a competition gun.  The shop owner didn't want me to take it all the way down as he didn't want to risk scratching it and making it unsaleable.  He said he had fired one and that if fed, extracted and ejected OK.  For the money, I definitely think it has potential.  I can do a lot of polishing and tuning to a $350.00 gun and it would still be a worthwhile expenditure for me.

Thank you for the input . There is a growing interest in Vintage Hunting and the 87 would be a nice addition with a 28 inch barrel .

Thanks pettifogger.  I think it would be a good gun for NCOWS since we don't run them fast. We take our time and enjoy every shot. I'll be getting one myself soon.

Some of the clubs I shoot with regularly allow stoking '87's and '97's on the clock, so even if no drop-2, just take a few seconds to fill the tube, then BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM

Will have to ask at the Old North State Posse come January.

That'd be just ACE, I tell ya what.  Still, going to be best to learn how to shoot one at a time for when I hit up End of Trail in 2014!

Most folks don't mind to spend $350 or less for a shotgun , but $1100 for a cowboy toy , I'm NOT . Maybe all the Vintage Hunters wanting a repeating shotgun can make the 28 inch barrels happen . I think that would be an excellent toy to Turkey hunt with or Pheasant or upland game birds . Oh well time will tell .

Rowdy, while we are at it let's dream of a 10-gauge with 28-30-inch barrel. One feller at the local SASS club runs an original 10 with heavy holy black loads and brass shells. Dang!

Now your on to something . A 10 gauge with a 30 inch barrel . Them Turkey will have a bad year if the Hunters are packing them , might want a sling to carry that Mountain Howitzer .

Well the first bunch of 87's are gone . And yes I asked for a long barrel . If enough people will contact them they will offer the long barrels . So call and tell them WHAT YOU want . 1-800-527-1252 ext314 . Ask when the next shipment will be in . They are saying in Feb .

Wondering how many people are interested in a long barreled 1887 ? now if you had one would you want it to come with a set of choke tubes or a standard full choke . Now I understand that the shooters shooting cowboy matches want the short barrels BUT some like longer barrels . Also the longer barrels would be better for side matches like cowboy trap . I would love to have the long barrel for the Vintage Hunting .

I'm going for the short barrel myself.  I don't hunt and would only use it for CAS.

Did anyone get a CAI PW87 from Santa ? I haven't seen one yet . When you go to there site they show a long barrel gun . That was on the cover of the owners manual .

Not yet. I'm hoping that there us one or more to check out at the next gun show here.  U also hope I've got enough money for one by then.
