You put all that power point stuff all together despite a stay at the hospital....My hat is off to you my friend.

I had spine surgery/fusion last year and had to spend several days in the hospital afterwards.... for recovery enough to be discharged...Seemed I was pressing that morphine button every couple of minutes. I still cringe and feel faint when I think about them having to remove that darn catheter.

A hip replacement...second one at that, sounds like its no fun at all either. Hope all goes as well as you can hope for and your back to enjoying the hobby in no time...take care.

Here's some more eye candy, a few of Cimarron's 1860 show guns that I snapped pics of while working Shot Show.

This one is in the white.  Don't recall if the grips are real ivory or Tru-Ivory

An 1860 Richards-Mason

Tiffany 1860, silver and gold plated.  Rather gaudy, but then this type of gun isn't intended to be a shooter!

Hi,
Here is my 1860 Conversion based on a Signature Series, a Kirst Ring and a modified uberti cylinder.

Mike

When you say "modified uberti cylinder" do you mean you bored the Uberti cylinder out and to what calibre?

Colt Fanning

Hi,
1. I cut the front of the cylinder off to allow for a bushing.
2. I cut  the back of the cylinder off outside of the ratchet to clear the Kirst ring.
3. I sleeved the cylinder and barrel to 38 special.

I would have liked to keep it at 44 or 41 but the locking notches in the cylinder are too deep to allow these calibers.

Ok Thanks,

We cant get the Kirst kits here any more because of the export ban so I am looking at other ways to convert my 1860 to a Type 1 Richards. I have the Type 2 in 44 colt and Two Open Top's.

I was hoping to get the 41 to work and have picked up a case today to see if it will work.

Thanks.

Colt Fanning

Hi,
I tried the 41 and found that the chamber will intersect the bottom of the bolt notch with 2-3 thousands of overlap.  In other
words the chambers will be barely visible at the bottom of the bolt notch.  While I wouldn't advocate shooting a gun with
this condition, I am told that some of the 19th century 44 conversions were made this way.  It also looks tacky and scary.  Kirst
solves this problem by going to a five shooter with the locking notches between the chambers, but I wanted a six shooter.
After line boring the cylinder sleeves, the gun shoots as accurate as my Ruger vaquero.

I have two Army '60's (Pietta's) never used them in CAS.  They just sat in my gun safe, so after looking at a lot the conversions shown here... I said, I can do that... I have converted one of the revolvers using Kirst Konverters with ejector assembly. Waiting on Hoof Hearted to send me the Kirst conversion for the second revolver (back ordered). I have defarbed the barrels and ground the Loading Lever Retainer off and reblued the barrels. I did not shorten the barrel's, left them at 8".  After installing the Kirst on the first one, had some timing problems with the hand pawl, but that has been corrected. I used Pettifogger's method of changing the original spring hand to a spring coil plunger hand.  It may or maynot be historically correct, but since I will never use a stock on these Army '60's,  I am not really crazy about those 2 large stock screws in the sides of the frame.  So I removed them to the trash can and cut off the nipples for cap and ball and screwed them into the holes. I think it looks better, now I have 2 lubricating holes... laugh. The most time consuming event was making the cut for the loading port. But the first one is fini and all works well. Here are some pics of the completed army. I am very pleased with the way this project ended.

I have to say that you did one heck of a fine job in making some vintage looking holsters out of those Cabela's holsters. I'm really impressed.

Here is my 60 Army with the barrel shortened to 5 1/2 inches.
It has the R&D conversion on it - 5 shot.  .45cal

Nice Centaur Charlie ;)
I shoulda bid a bit higher so it could've been mine!

The neat thing about the Cavalry is that it has a 7 & 1/2" barrel and with a Navy size grip would be a rare bird! Lot's of affeciando's here would like to have one........

I have been crying for Uberti to release an 1860 using those specs, I think that Pietta has proven that there is a market for the Navy Grips and shorter barrels on the big 44.

For about 20 years or so in my early days, the only home defense weapon I had was a Uberti copy of a Griswold, brass framed .44 (I know) that I bought in 1970.  I kept it loaded, capped and in a flap holster hanging off the bed headboard next to my head. ( I still have it, but have not shot it in years.) I had a couple of moments that I needed it, but just the site of that cannon in my hand stopped the disturbances.  I never felt under gunned.

Griswold,
The Griswold was favored by my Great Grand Pa James Henry Story who rode with the 7th Georgia Cavalry.
