Not much activity here for a while, so here is another.  This is not my gun, belongs to a friend who gave it to me to fix.  This is a first year '51 s/n 11xx, made in 1850 per Colt s/n listings, but the owner told me the first ones were actually made in 1849 and sent out for testing.  So, this gun is 175 years old!! Note the wedge slot in the arbor, and you will see that the test for that apparently did not live up to expectations, so they went back to the standard arbor/wedge configuration.  Anyways, I will be making a more informative post about this gun with more pictures in the Colt firearms forum on this site, and when I do I will update this post with a link to that post.  Meantime, just a couple of pics:

That wedge slot certainly is interesting. I wasn't aware that Colt tried them like that. Thanks for sharing these photos.
