Hi,

I had a similar problem trying to find something that would satisfy SASS (and NCOWS) and be able to pull the 7  & 1/2" barrels of my Schofields .... I ended up adding about 3" to the belt part of the holsters ... and even then the grips came above the belt and satisfied judges ... Then I copied the holster belt and made a matching shotgun belt ....

I hope this helps ....

A pattern for the old Vequaro ( large frame) will accommodate the Super BH revolver.
I have 3 Supers. They are Very strong built revolvers and accurate as all get out.
Here is one with a set of grips I just finished.

Ballcap,

I believe ALL of Will Ghormley's plans come with patterns for the Old Vaquero ... if not, I would call him (he is most friendly) and tell him what you are looking for .... here is his web address:

BTW, his patterns are superb!

All the Old Vaquero patterns will fit the Super Blackhawk, but you will need to allow for the front sight by lowering the top front of the bucket.

That yes lowering the front of the bucket will stop the holster from looking too wide, let the rear sights run free.

I bought this holster with a Ruger Blackhawk in the early 70s. I hope to repair the holster when the Cobra gets here. Someone removed the front belt strap from the main belt and put on an ugly two fork belt buckle.

Picking up some leather for the belt tomorrow, went into Tandy Leather yesterday and picked out a nice shoulder piece with enough room for the belt. Guy in the store said "let me put it away and come back Friday for it because today it is $60, Friday it will be $20" Black Friday deals, so I'm stocking up on all that I think I will need ;)

The belt I want to be the kind where the holster goes through a loop so that it rides lower. I'm told this is not traditional or period that it is more Hollywood. Now I am toying with function vs correctness. The longer barrel will be easier to draw if the holster hangs lower. I was also interested to find out that on such a belt that the belt is curved not straight.

Personally I'm yet to find a function that the buscadaro serves better than a correct period styled holster unless it is for fast draw. I don't picture a Super Blackhawk 7 1/2 inch as a fast draw gun.

Started designing the rig, trying to get the placement of the rounds. Thinking 3 sets of 6 44MAGs and 2 sets of 4 12 guage at each end. Now once the gun and holster are added to the rig I might have to join a gym just to be able to lift it let alone wear it ;)

If you want a fast holster, try a butt-forward carry canted at 22-27 degrees off vertical with a thumb-break half flap. Worn on the strong side, you need to practice (with an empty gun, of course), but it is fast even with a 7-1/2" barrel. For field work, the advantage is that you can draw it with either hand, in an emergency, even if you are down on top of the gun!  Properly done, you do NOT sweep your leg or any other part of your anatomy. If you run into something large and furry (griz, mountain lion, etc.) it can be real handy! Just draw the gun and let Ol' Ephraim chew on the front sight awhile before you drop the hammer!
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

So the rig is coming together, at least in a test assemble. The holster has been wet formed.  Going to put a little detail of some sort on the belt and the cartridge loops before wet forming them.
