Are these machines any good for holsters, or leather work?  I have seen a few supplied with wheel feet, and they seem to be for shoes, maybe, though not normally the kind of machine one would use...

Massive,

The only info I found was in a copy of the Pfaff 28 Manual.....do a search "Phaff 28 sewing machine"  you will find a thread with the manual....it will do lighter leather work with the proper needle set ups...the manula lists "lighter saddler work" so I am not sure it has enough ummmf to do a main stitch on a holster...especially a holster with a heavy main seam.  It does not have the heavy duty bobbin and is not a true oscillating bobbin carrier ( they refer to the shuttle as a "beak shuttle"). Also, I suggest you call Pfaff in Atlanta and find out if parts are still available for this machine.  The fact that the pictures show a wheel on the outside presser foot indicates to me that it may not be a walking foot design but more of a needle/dog feed system.

Neat looking machine though...if the price is right and the condition is good  it's a possibility...

The Pfaff 28 is a drop feed machine with a roller foot, designed for manufacturing and repair of boot and shoe uppers. You can sew a couple layers of garment weight leather or perhaps 1 layer of 6-7oz with this machine but nothing much thicker than that.

For holsters you should find either a machine with a heavy duty drop feed mechanism and 7/16" sewing capacity, or a walking foot machine with 7/8" sewing capacity (441 clones are the most popular).

We have a sewing machine educational guide on our website that you can use for reference to help you find the proper machine:
