That is just too cool! I can only imagine the amount of hours and money that has gone into this project.
Are you close to being able to shoot it?  I want one!

Hoof Hearted

Reb

It is 100% functional ;D

Time enough to shoot it seems to be the problem........
After 9 weeks on the road showing horses at the National and then World shows for two different horse associations I will be playing catch up here in the shop and juggling farming (trying to get the last of the hay in) and the chores that fall brings.

Rest assured I will post up my progress.

Next is chamber casts and then to the lathe to make cases. I have a number of adequate bullet moulds....

Could you explain why the bullets don't move forward from recoil after the 1st shot??? I've been ponderin' that question for some time.

Short answer........friction ;)
In theory when seated with the rammer they should have the same amount of grip (friction) as a round ball would. In reality this is one of the reasons the Thuer was not in production for long.........

Original 36 Thuer cartridge:

in the second picture of the thuer cartridge it kind of sorta looks like a shot gun shell primer. i was wondering if that could be use. if not what is used for a primer?

OK, now I'm with ya........

The primer is really of no concern as the cases will have to be made anyway.
Unless you know of a supply ;D

Billy

The easiest route here for cartridges is to turn 38 or 44 cases to shape on the lathe then use Pistol Primers.......

That is fine looking work. I dare not ask how many hrs. you got in that . Wonder if they came with that nice of a finish original? ....Dusty.

Sir Charles

I have not fired this one yet, sadly :-\
My other projects keep getting in the way......

I do have a breech loading version that I have completed and it shoots 38 Colt Heel base wonderfully!
I also have completed an 1860 breech loader Thuer that shoots 45 caliber ammo.

Dusty

The ring is nitre blue, the cylinder is old and patina, the revolver is 2nd Gen Colt.
The pics I have seen all have the same high level of finish (or some worn stage there of) that one would expect from a Colts revolver.
