And this on the WET coast ???   Last appreciable rain fell in late June, until now.

Carl, it poured rain all through our annual BP Rendezvous on the July long weekend, then the sun came out and stayed out 'til now.
What a summer!!

I have just returned from one of my circuit court trips to Fort Ware.  Hardly any snow; - YET!!  The villages don't have their winter meat either as the game is still too high on the mountains. Three weeks ago there was a bit of rain. Williston Lake is low and the driftwood reaches out more than I've ever seen it.

Lots of rain now.  The oak leaves and acorns are dropping like flies.  I have to go out in the rain just to sweep my driveway.

Boy, life is tough out here on the wet coast!

If you're bored with sweeping wet leaves, you can come up to the 'Boo and shovel snow or operate my snow blower.

Our mountains are white and there is an honest foot of new snow on the ground. Our lake is freezing over, making life tough for the migrating swans and geese.

I spent 16 wonderful years in the North and visit periodically. Right now I have to put up with the considerable hazards of living in Victoria.

"Snowbirds" ain't real Canucks. Real Canucks tough out 10 months of winter and two months of even tougher sledding.
Frostbitten ears and noses are Canadian rights of passage.

In a few weeks, I'll be able to step out the door, put on my x-country skis and ski 'til I drop. I'll be seeing moose tracks, deer tracks, otter tracks, wolf tracks, etc.; sometimes the critters themselves. I'll see displays of the Aurora Borealis you can't imagine, while walking on snow that crunches.

I think I'd get bored very quickly with anything else, particularly the rain of the 'wet coast'. Been there - done that. It sucked then and does now.

God bless, Wildman!

'Mother Winter' can be a bitch - ask Napoleon and Hitler. My father-in-law was a Panzer Grenadier in Von Paulus's 6th Armee at Stalingrad.
He got our before the complete encirclement after the order was given to save yourself if you could, only to be captured later in the Ukraine and sent to Siberia. He came back in 1951, broken in health and spirit.
As an aside, I asked what were his favourite weapons and he responded: "MG 34 and the Kubelwagon" I asked why and he said: "When you needed them, they worked." The Kubelwagon got him out of Stalingrad. He put gasoline in a helmet and shoved it under the engine block to thaw it, a trick the Wehrmacht learned the hard way.

I spent two years at the Canadian Army Arctic Warfare School at Churchill, Manitoba, on the shores of Hudson Bay. I left there convinced that Hell was cold, not hot. You know why .....

For awhile this afternoon there was a strange bright light in the Southern sky.  I was about to go out but then the skies opened with more rain.  Oh well!  Better to be soggy than Sandy.

Well, the 'drought' is over on the Atlantic Seaboard. It remains to see what election issues are going to result from all the chaos.
Citizens are prepared to deal with looters, those ghouls who materialize out of the misery of catastrophic disasters. Lets hope that police and 'contractors' do not confiscate private firearms as they did following Hurricane Katrina.
