Evening All,

I recently got and original 12 gauge 1887 shotgun that has a few problems, does anyone have any suggestions as to who I can contact, or who works on the originals.

Thanks

You ddn't ask about this, but I've found it to be all that I needed to restore an nice little 97. Well, that and a few tools, some very smelly chemicals and a wife with the patiece of Job.

So other than being both made by Winchester what does a Model 1897 have to do with a problem with a Model 1887? :-\

Well that's logical, but I was dang curious how a break down of a 1897 would help work on an 1887.   ::)

I have used Cap to work on two different shotuns.  His work is excellent.  Probably one of the best 87 and 97 shotgun smiths around.

I do not want to disparage his name, but be cautious about his "promised" turn around times.

I had one shotgun sent for refinishing and a minor repair.  I prepaid the work and was promised a 6 to 8 week turn around.

The gun returned to me 14 months later.   Work done on it was high quality.

I personally know two others who've had similar situations with Cap's shop.

I sent one in last year, had it back in less than 10 days round trip. Better than when I first got it from him. He hads some issue a few years back. I hope that was a sign of turning things around. I agree He is is the the one for either of those two models. He from time to time has some used ones for sale also.
