I just found this forum and figured that y'all would know the answers to my questions.
My dad just gave me his "Navy Arms" marked model 1866 Yellow Boy Saddle Ring rifle in .44-40
It has a 16" Barrel but I cannot find any markings on the gun that say "Uberti". I thought the gun was a Navy Arms model 1866 Yellow Boy Carbine but all research comes up with that model only coming with a 19" Barrel.

Mine has a 16" Barrel but no "Uberti markings on it.
The serial number is located just behind the Carrier Block.
Serial # is 14133

I would like to know when it was made and what it might be worth.
I have some photos of the gun if you would like to see it.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Lenny

I assume it is roll engraved  NAVY ARMS  RIDGEFIELD New Jersey.

for the Uberti mark look for a Hexagon around a circle with a U within ( It is the Uberti logo depicting a muzzle of a 51 Navy w/ the U )

Next look for letters  within brackets  ( example  [AB] ) this is the date code.

there may be very small A.UBERTI under the forestock or near the rear sight just above the forestock.

16 1/8" is called the "Trapper" model

Code 0233 - 1866 TRAPPER  - 16 1/8" - .44/40   http://www.ubertireplicas.com/lever-1866yellowboy.php

value is in condition.... NIB might sell retail $850-900, more than likely having been fired $600-700
realistically

The issue here is does it hold 10, 44/40 rounds or is it 9 + 1 ?
The WAS shooter would want the 10 shooter for his game....

I assume it is roll engraved  NAVY ARMS  RIDGEFIELD New Jersey. Yes it is. After that it say's Made in Italy

for the Uberti mark look for a Hexagon around a circle with a U within ( It is the Uberti logo depicting a muzzle of a 51 Navy w/ the U ) I see a couple dotted circles both having a star inside them. Under one of these circles is what looks like the leters PSF. Under the other circle is what looks like a square with 2 crossed rifles.

Next look for letters  within brackets  ( example  [AB] ) this is the date code. There is a stamping "XX9" but no brackets around it.

As far as round capacity, I have no clue. I don't have any 44-40 ammo.

Being an older Navy Arms trapper it will not hold ten in the tube.  Maybe 9 or maybe just 8.  This is not a problem unless used for Cowboy Action Shooting.  Since your dad gave it to you, I'd assume you want to keep it.  But if you did want to sell it, it would probably sell best to a mounted shooter.  They only load 5, they like 44-40, and they like the shorter barrels (quicker out of the scabbard).

I would like to sell it.
Do you think $700 is a good price to sell it for?

Thank you all for your assistance.

Fair price to ask .... may or may not sell  :-\

Like Abilene & I both said " the CAS/WAS ( Cowboy/Western Action) Shooter will shy away because most stage writers base the Rifle stage on 10 rounds.

A hunter might like the 44/40 and 9+1 casacity.  :-\

But I believe, Mounted shoorters use 45 Colt, as Blanks are normally supplied by the host or venue....
I have been away from Mounted shooting a long time , but that was the way it was when I shot mounted.

I'm not positive about SASS Mounted, but CMSA mounted shooters use 45LC blanks in the pistols and 4-in-1 (or 5-in-1 or whatever) blanks for the rifles.  When using 45LC rifles sometimes the blanks split and get stuck in the chambers, and doesn't seem to happen with with 44-40 rifles so some of them prefer 44-40.
