Q1. Does VTI or someone else have the Russian latches?

Q2. Can the original Laramie latch be replaced once the Russian latch has been modified?

My main problem with my Laramie is that it shoot about 8-inches high at 25 yds and there really isn't an easy way to file down the rear sight without getting well down into the base.

I'm not Mr. Driftwood Johnson, but - I feel I can answer these two questions.

A1.  VTI had the Russian Latches last year, I bought two of them.

A2.  Yes, since the latches are a direct swap, the original Laramie latch can be reinstalled.  However, the Russian latch HAS to be modified to allow the Laramie hammer to go fully home - otherwise the firing pin will never be able to strike the primer due to the Laramie hammer striking the Russian latch - hence a pocket must be milled or cut into the latch.

  I am on a low dollar quest to acquire a S&W NM#3 latch/rear sight and see about having a suitable copy manufactured.  I recently came aware of the S&W NM#3 "COMBAT SIGHT" and that looks even MORE promising!  Perhaps the best/cheapest answer is just to have the 'adjustable' sight on the Laramie latch silver soldered into place with a larger blade and then cut deeper?

  My Laramies do also shoot high.  The options are a taller front sight or deeper rear sight.

Driftwood, when Hap was showing you the Schofield mod did he happen to mention how the cylinder base pin is held in the frame?  Is it screwed in or a press fit?
