Does anyone have any idea as to how many were made and are they still being produced?  I saw an add this morning that has again peeked my curiosity concerning the short barl in 45Colt again.  At any rate there is a WTB posted for one of these over on the SASS Classifieds if anyone needs the cash more than the treasure.

There was quite a discussion quite awhile back on production of originals. I recall that there is one attributed to Yellowstone Kelly, but after that ???

I have never seen Uberti release any production data let alone by numbers by model.  In the Henry there have been at least models with 16.5, 18.5, 22, and 24.5 barrels as I have had at least one of each of these.  So far, I have never seen a 20".

I saw a post this morning submitted by a pard who had one cut to twenty inches, think he said cost was two hundred dollars for a quality job.  So far there have been no posts in response to the pards search for a .45 with an eighteen and a half inch barl.

I talked with Cap some years back about shortening my 24" color case model and rechambering/sleeving from 44-40 to 44spec.  Always seemed to find another gun that needed buying first and Cap musta got so frustrated with the wait that he closed up shop!  I had even purchased a short carrier to allow use with the Russian brass.  This would actually be an easier/cheaper project to accomplish by starting with a short barl 45 and going with the cowboy special round, until I remember that a new gun would have to be purchased!

Decisions .... Decisions ...... Decisiions.

Just got back from a short vacation and just got a good line on a nearly unfired 18 1/2 inch Henry, .45 Colt.  A mite spensive, but there aren't a lot of 'em out there.  To buy, or not to buy.  That is the question.

If I dood it, I get a whoppin.  So ..... I dood it.  Went out and bought the short 18 1/2 inch Henry from a friend, who got it from a friend and it's so "new" I don't think it has more than 5 rounds thru it.  Looks just brandy damn new.  So much for the good part.

This rifle is at least 10+ years old.  It has the old style hollow cast wrist, tiny cross pin retains the extension rod, two screw upper tang, hammer geometry allows the extension rod to pass, solid brass follower (no little rubber baby buggy bumper) and the frame and wrist were full of casting sand a machine swarf.  I'd almost forgotten how much work the old build rifles were to set up.  Just cleaning the frame out was a chore.
I am about 1/3 done setting it up though.  Added the cartridge stop to the carrier block (C45S cases), bored the breach block for a new bigger cross pin, replaced the old small head firing pin, reduced the main spring, had to pee so I quit for tonight.  Wheeeeeeee.  Tis is fun!!!!!
