 :(

Folks,

Much as it pains me to do this, I must put my Winchester Model 1895 Lee Navy Straight Pull rifle up for sale...

I shall post pics of the rifle later today...

Asking price: $3100.00, which includes shipping directly to you, since this is an antique firearm, No FFL needed...

I am quite firm on this price. This rifle is PRISTINE, as the pics will show. Original blueing. Original, intact military markings...

AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!  Where's $3100 when you REALLY need it!  Take a well behaved (mostly) teenager in trade?

Drydock (what really wishs he had a spare 3 grand about now . . .)

I'd love to have it, too, but it's a little (maybe a lot) out of my league!

Well, that's three of us!

Perhaps we could work out a tri-joint custody agreement . . . ;D Trouble is, we'd all want to have use of it at the same time. And who would reload for me??

Gents,

I have received tentative acceptence from...RIVER CITY JOHN!!! I have agreed to give him 10 days refusal...

I shall keep folks apprised of things...

I wanted to keep this rifle "in the family." While I have been not very active, suffice to say, GAF has my full and wholehearted support. My life has been full of turmoil for the past decade. GAF has been one thing that helps to keep me focused on the positive...

I too have a CC and Paypal, but too many other things (curse you, teen age teeth) demanding of it.  Still, I shall do my best to ingratiate myself into RCJs last will and testament . . .

Congratulation RCJ!!  Look forward to seeing this fine rifle at a future Muster.  Thank you for removing this temptation as my funds have taken a large hit this year due to my uncontrollable purchasing of vintage military rifles.

Oh, oh, John can I shoot it a couple times, the Vetterli was a lot of fun. ;D

I'll even make a new nightshirt this winter, I'm thinking the green and black plaid like Rattlesnake Jack wear would be kinda neat. ;)

Not too sure I'm going to be shooting it for quite a while.
Most all the components such as altered brass, repro stripper clips or dies, are out of stock.

Did a preliminary search for the unique ammo belt, bayonet and scabbard and weighted pull-through cleaning brush that goes into the butt trap to complete it. Yoikes!
They're just not found and no one makes reproductions. S & S Firearms (nice gentleman who has a personal interest in the Lee Navy) told me that the bayonet is very hard to find and to expect to pay $600.00 or so. And to be careful, because there are a lot of ones that are sold that are confusing and not the original one meant for the Lee Navy.

Downloaded a reprint of the government manual for the Lee Navy, so have something to go by. Even right there in the manual it says that you could load the magazine well with five loose rounds without a stripper clip. (It's as if they'd read the Battle Rifle rules . . . ;D) Fortunately S & S Firearms does sell quite a few original parts.
Anyone know of some resources for these items, please let me know.

I will bring it to the Grand Muster to play with, but I plan on shooting my Vetterli and Open Top.

And don't get all solicitous about my health and well being, Drydock. My wife has already informed me that she's burying all my guns with me in the coffin. She also thinks the Vetterli has enough length to make an interesting floor lamp.
