I have not shot a smokeless match in several years but the weather conditions(extremely dry) made me put the black away and shoot all smokeless at out last match.
I did not like it and won't do it again.
The interesting thing was that the AA shells I bought from Wally world would not shuck from my shotgun. After I came home and decided to clean the gun I discovered a coating like unto beeswax covering the insides of my chambers. It came right out with moosemilk and a boresnake but I wonder what it was?

Perhaps dried urine gummys, how you been cooling them barls on thet double when shooting the black stuff?   ;D  Wax sounds good enuff to me, comes off warm and soft but then thickens quickly to act like a bonding agent???

Where would a wax be coming from?

I tried the self generated stream applied personal cleaning solution for the shot gun and was thrown off the range.  Did work well tho.

Howdy Noz,

If I read correctly, sometimes doubtful, the waxy crap came from the AA factory loads?  If that's the case, I'd contact Winchester and ask what gives.  You deserve at least a straight answer.

I do know that the AA hulls are no longer one piece.  They have a base wad that can separate from the case.  You want to watch that because if one of those comes loose and sticks in your barrel, you could have a pipe bomb.  When I'm loading the modern AA (very shiny) hulls, I check the base wad on each one to see if it's loose.  I have found several.  I shoot them once with black powder and toss them.  The new hulls just don't hold up like the old ones.

Now, I'm wondering if the waxy stuff was something Winchester used to cement that base wad in place???
