Hello all.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me when this rifle was built and who it might of been issued to ?

The engraving says, "Spencer Repeating Rifle Co., Boston Mass, Pat Pend March 6, 1860"

Serial Number 49439

Barrel length is 20 inches.

If anyone might guess as to the value, that would help too as I am thinking about selling it.

Arizona Trooper

Check your barrel length measuring inside the bore from the face of the breechblock, should be 22" unless someone has cut it back. 49440 shows up in Co. F of the 2nd Wisc. Cav. There are a bunch of other units with nearby numbers, 19th NY, 7th Ind. 14th Kansas, 1st Vt. and so on. Without an exact match, it's impossible to tell for sure. Arms were not issued in serial number order, so adjacent serial numbers often went to different units in entirely different parts of the country. It's a nice looking carbine!

Hello, I am looking for any available advice or information on a M1860 Spencer Carbine serial number 49690.
Thanks in advance for any return on my query.

AdR,

Maybe it was issued to Company E, 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry in March 1865.

Two Flints,

Thanks for your help !

Good to know that carbine probably saw the last days of Civil War.
