.50-70 Trapdoor used by USMC?

I know the Marine Corps used the .45-70 Trapdoor (Model 1884, I believe), but does anyone know if they ever used either the 1868 or the 1870 Trapdoors?  I recall seeing one reference to them doing just that, but I didn't see where they cited their source of information.  Any help would be appreciated!

I think I just found the answer to my question.  Supposedly, in September of 1870, the Chief of Ordnance shipped 3,000 Springfield breech loading muskets, caliber .50, Model of 1868, to the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C.  Good!  I like the Trapdoor better than the Rolling Block!  (I still need to look up the references, though.)

I know there is still one for sale in Crofton, NE at Upper Missouri Trading co. He's had it a few years and the price has gone down some. $600 IIrc.

Marines never steal, although they may occasionally liberate or aquire misplaced gear!

They came back with a bunch of trap door rifles and the doors for an ambulance. ;D

If one is male and the other female we could get a litter of carbines. ::)

Can I get pick of the litter? I bet you won't have to set at the front of the wal mart parking lot all day to give them away!

Wonder what would happen if we bred Dale's Trapdoor with his Roller?

Yeah, but I ran it down the sidetrack and helped de-rail it.

Each to their own, Ned.  I've always liked the Rolling Block to the Trapdoor, though I will admit the Trapdoor is faster to shoot.  One of these days I may luck out and find an 1870 Navy that is shootable but doesn't break the bank.

Don't get me wrong, I like them both a lot!  For me, the forend on the Rolling Block is just a little narrow and "splinter-like", and you're right, the Trapdoor is a bit faster since it ejects the empty brass.

Would it be a trapblock or a rollingdoor?

It's Ok, I have your back, I'll take 99% of the blame, the rest goes to campfire stories. ;)

A trapblock it the trapdoor is the father, a rollingdoor if the roller is Dad.
