Good morning, Go easy on me as this is really my first post here. I purchaed a fluted cylinder for my Uberti 1860 and am wondering if it takes the same BP loads as the stardard cylinder. Thanks in advance

I've never heard of a difference. They should all take the same charges. Basically all the BP it'll hold and still allow room for the ball.

I hadn't heard anything differant either but the cylinder walls look much thinner than standard rebated cylinder. I normally run 30 grs of 3f but just wanted to be sure............

Pettifogger

They only look thinner because of the flutes.  Measure the wall thickness on the thinnest part of a regular cylinder and it is no thicker than the walls on a full flute model.  They both take the same powder charges.

Thanks, I will go now and make some smoke.....

Fer southpaw...
This is just IMOHO...

I really don't see the point in stoking up 1860`s
The piccie shows a  15yd, 5 rd offhand group, one I pulled but the results say it all, my load also will knock down a IPSC Pepper Popper at 10yds with authority, all this and only 19gns of fffg!! homemade lubed wad and a standard 454 pill.

My 1860`s will defiantly outlast me

I am sure you will find these forums and CAS City about the most friendly/helpful on the whole web

Fer my Uberti 1862 .36 Powlice and my 1860 Colt sig.  17gns ffg homemade lubed wad .358 pill, none of my loads fil the cylinder chamber and I cant see the point of filler, taint a cartridge so there is no air gap, effectifly its the same as shootin a 38sp in a .357 or a 44 ELR  ;) in a 44mag smokepole

I have found my best accuracy with reduced powder and enough filler/wads to get the ball all the way out to the end of the cylinder.....that's just me though. ;) Most of the time I just dump in almost full cylinders of powder then squash a ball on top with a little lube smeared over the top....plenty good for cowboy shoots. Lots of smoke and noise too! ;D
