I just put this USMC Officer's Campaign Hat together using a River Junction Cavalry Hat, and trimmings from S & S.  I'm sure it's got problems, but it will do nicely for what we do!

I'm not entirely sure on this, but I remember reading that USMC officer's hat cords were gold and red and the Army's were gold and black.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Marine hat cords were indeed gold and scarlet.  The cord on this one is, and I believe I got it from S & S Firearms.

I got mine at Legendary Arms.  Don't have the web site but the last time I was on it they still have them.

The hat is nice looking.  Of course I may now have to get one for myself.

The emblem was  on the left side of the slouch hat 1898-1904, then moved to the front in 1904, then to the front of the 1912 campaign hat (Smokey)l.

The 1898 - era hat had more of a central, fore/aft "crease", and the sides were pinched in as well - though many re-formed to their individual taste, including some even had "Mounty" (3-dent) Montana Peaks (4-dent) way before they were "regulation".

The SWA-era emblems were bronze - the easiest way I found to get this color is use a brass emblem - or strip off the black coating, then use a cold bluing solution (like Birchwood Casey).  Use a little steel wool to wear off some of the color.
S&S used to have some repros of the old style emblems (in brass) Haven't checked lately...   The globe is more prominent. Whether the globe is bigger than the current, or the eagle and anchor are smaller,  I couldn't say; plus the eagle's wings are "droopy".  The globe also had longitude  lines cast in, as well.
