In the movie of that title the gang leader,(Micky Rourk) sp., seems obsessed with how much ammo all his gang members have.  They each count and call out how much ammo they have and what calibers.  44-40s are mentioned as well as 45 Colt and then 45-40 is mentioned.  Now I know that at one time the original 45 Colt round had 40 grains of black powder and was later reduced to 30 grains.  So is the reference to 45-40 pretaining to the 45 Colt in it's original loading?   ???

That gang was the remnant of a military unit. Part of the reorganization drill for any action is the ammo count.  This guy was particularly OCD on top of that!!
