IS THERE ANY SILHOUETTE MATCHES WITHOUT THE NRA WEIGHT RULE?

Hello Lads,
I am relatively new to BPCR, and would like to start competing. Are there any silhouette matches that don't hold to the NRA rifle weight rule? I have three Sharps, rifles, a 45-90, a 45-110 and a 50-90
and all are over the 12 pound rule.
I shoot long range paper and gong, shooting against myself for for accuracy and ability. I would like to try shooting in a silhouette match, but I can't make that 12 pound rule .

I live in Washington state, but I am retired and can take a drive to get in on the fun and compete against the old hands.

Thanks,
Donald Bowman

OK, let's see... Latest issue of the BPC News upcoming matches.  Eatonville - 2nd Sunday of each month.  Phone Steve or Beth Morris 360-498-5258

Poulsbo - 1st Sunday of each month - phone Jerry Prouty 360-649-5516

Machias - Monthly target rifle matches - Call Steve Anderson 425-879-4590

Spokane - Monthly BPCR matches - phone Larry Bassett at 509-327-9632

Tacoma - Single Shot Rifle matches - call Bob Zimmerman 253-939-9247

The weight limit for NRA rules is 12lb, 2oz but I doubt many local clubs would get to upitty about a new shooter with an overweight gun.  If they did, I would be too keen on shooting with them anyway.  I would recommend using the .45-90 for a 40 round match.  For one day, including sighter, you will need at least 55 to 60 rounds.  That would make for a brutal day if you use anything bigger.  And believe me, I know that a .45-90 gets tiring enough for a full day's shooting.  Keep us posted on how you make out and don't hesitate to ask if you need more help.

Thanks for all the information,
I will give them a call and see how tight they are on the rules for weight.
thanks

No problem.  Let us know how you make out.

I just shot the weekend with my new .40-82 Shiloh on a Hartford Model.  What a fun little round.

SKJ is that the same 40-82 as used in the 86 Winchester?

No, it isn't.  All three .40-82 rounds are based on the .45-90 case and have the same case length of 2.4".

The .40-82 WCF is bottleneck case.  It's generally an express round with a light bullet unless one wants to increase the twist rate in a High-Wall.

The .40-82 Shiloh is a straight taper case.  From the case head, there is a straight section for .300", then the case is tapered for a section, the ending in a "neck" that is about .650" long.  It's like a .40-65 but just longer.  Ideal bullet weight is about 390 to 430 grains.  What little experience I have is that it shows to be pretty flat shooting.

The .40-82 Crossno is tapered right from the case head to the mouth.  From what I'm told, the Crossno is a similar performer to the Shiloh round.

My problem is that I own an '86 in .40-82 WCF and must take care to keep them far away from my Shiloh .40-82 brass.  :D  Hope this helps.
