Cliff,

I really know this is showing total ignorance of the situation, but what is a media separator?

Can one buy one of these?  If so, where?

Do you have any pics of one so that I can figure it out?

There are or maybe were several types out there.  Some look like a plastic pan for panning gold only with holes in the pan to let the walnut or other media.  Someone long a go made one that looked like a plastic restaurant ice scoop again with hole s in it.  I use Dillions Cage type (think ticket hopper from a raffle) that you crank over a large plastic bin.  A simple collander sitting in a cardboard box would work just as well.  If using a cardboard box as a bin, I would suggest taping down the flaps to keep media from getting under them.

Howdy Ultrasonicians,

Thanks for the input fellas. It is true that an ultrasonic does not "shine" the brass. It merely cleans the fouling. Nothing beats a tumbler for polish. I have no experience with SS media, but I'm sure it weighs more than corncob or walnut and might require some adjustment in a vibratory machine. Overall, the ultrasonics are an easy way to clean the inside of the case, especially the primer pocket. Not an every time thing, but as needed.

I can't help but wonder sometimes...
Ceramic makes a darn good knife sharpener, and stainless bore brushes can ruin the bore of a rifle with using some extreme caution.
We know that knife steel and barrel steel are a wee bit more resiliant than cartridge brass......

Ellis, in the kitchen they are called colanders.  Here's some, just pick the size of the holes ... http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=289761

This is what I'm talking about, a few spins inside and the media is in the bottom and the brass is clean inside the basket. Used one for years and it works just as good on the stainless pins as with the other media.
