Can someone tell me if EMF is as good a Uberti importer as say Cimarron or Navy Arms?  How well are these guns timed and how is their customer service?

Curley Cole

VG,
I have owned 3 Dakotas and currently a GW2, all from EMF. I still have 2 of the original 3 Dakotas, from buying new in 1981. They still shoot fine. One of the Dakotas went outta time (and at the time I had FFL, so sent it to them on Monday, and had a new gun on my doorstep on Wednesday)

My current GW2 is one of the prettiest guns I have ever seen. CCH is finest you will find. Shortly after I got it It locked up on me. I took it to EMF in Santa Ana, and Steve had it ready for me to pick up the next day. So as you can see me and Old Top are pretty fond of our EMF's. My current battery is the GW2, above mentioned Dakota, and an EMF Hartford Brass frame '92, that is about as sweet a gun as you can find...

any questions, email me and will try to help ya out.

VG,
EMF's Customer service is great. Had to return a new 1875 Remmie I purchased last Feb. They fixed the problem and reimbursed my shipping cost. They back their products 100% They are good folks to deal with.

You'll like your EMF gun.   However, you didn't say which gun you were considering.  The reason I ask?  If your rifle you are looking at is a Henry, an 1866 or 1873 Winchester repro, then it's made BY Uberti - which is owned by Beretta.  Uberti makes ALL the Winchester repros except the 1892.  Single shot rifles (ie: the 1885 Winchester) are different.

EMF IS the importer.  There are minor differences specified by each importer and some importers don't offer the same versions, but essentially, they're ALL Ubertis.  EMF claims and has the reputation of setting higher standards than the other importers, but I can't comment since I haven't seen enough different models to say for sure.

The pistols fall under different "rules", and are made by several factories, including Uberti/Beretta and Pietta.  (And perhaps more.)

Actually, I think A. Uberti is part of the Benelli group.  Beretta markets a SAA almost clone under their own name.  Has hammer block safety, etc. some differences between it and a Colt.  Ah yes, Lawyers and suit skeerdy cats rule.

Griff, I think that Beretta owns BOTH Uberti and Benelli.  "Uberti" makes the Beretta single action, if I'm to believe what is told.

Personal experience is that EMF customer service is AAAA++++; I've had 3 minor problems and each has been handled in a very efficient and customer-oriented manner.  I shoot the GW2 and Rossi '92; quality is excellent and any negative results from use of these is completely USER error.

SHB,  I ain't so sure.  Beretta markets both Colt SAAs and Lightning clones.  As does Taurus.  Uberti doesn't market or appear to manufacture the Lightning clone.  Benelli doesn't offer any cowboy type guns under this name.   Corporate entanglements can be hard to discern, but if a firm part of a larger group, that larger group usually will take credit someplace in the advertising.  I.e. Beretta certainly takes credit for their Sako & Tikko lines of rifles, among others.  Best way to know is to buy one and inspect.  Wish I could afford it ;D ;D

But all that is off-topic.

Back on topic:  EMF markets fine firearms.  They do have several levels of quality, that are reflected in their pricing.  Some of their older models might not be perceived as good a quality as some of the newer ones.  I have an old Dakota, that still shoots fine, albeit missing a screw in the backstrap.  They aren't available anywhere.  I just haven't taken the trouble to go to a machine shop to have one made.  But, then the Dakota is 30 years old. ;D  Yep, I've thought about retapping to accept a colt screw, but... ::)  I have 2 other EMF blackpowder guns that both about 20 & 25 years old.  Both still shoot fine and have no problems beyond the operators :o

The biggest response is if I was willing to buy more EMF arms.  The answer is a resounding  --  YES!

I only bought one EMF pistol. It was such a lemon I'm sure I won't buy another one. It was a great day when I sold it. I realize that most people have good luck with EMF, but I'm a bit gunshy (no pun intended).

What was wrong with it and did they stand behind their product?

Marshal Will,

Ya gots to just get back up on that horse and ride when ya get bucked off!
I had a problem with them several years ago, and after voicing my dissatifaction, Boyd Davis aka General Grant, personnally called me to make things right. I have bought 2 or 3 since, and never had a problem.

RRio:

I may give them a try since they seem to want to stand behind their product.  Making things right means alot.  Thanks.
