While shopping at Regt Quartermasters last month, I found a returned bayonet that someone had apparently attempted to drill out for their Sharps - and then returned. I checked and it was too big for a sprinfield so, for $15, I bought it and thought I would try to fit it on Serial Nr 9481. After many tries, it did fit (thank you Dremel) over the sight and even locks with the locking ring! So now we have an infantry rifle (probably 1st Ohio, right Two Flints?) ready for close quarters combat...again!

So, with blanks from Black Squirrel, a Springfield sling, a bayonet...bring on the Secesshes!

Does it sit firm on the bayonet stop on the stock when locked in?,I can not see the from the photos properly

Yes it does, Herbert. It is same overall length as the Springfield bayonet - I had to open the sight notch some for the front sight to clear but it does slide right down to the forearm

Any markings on the bayonet?

No markings, Sir. Given where it was in the shop, I believe it is a repo (I don't think they would have sold it for $15 if it was original)
